Next week in Glasgow, as a part of the start of the tour of a new Syd Barrett play around various venues in Scotland, a 70th birthday tribute, with Alan Bissett, Ian Barrett, John Cavanagh and Nicola Meighan takes place. With the play, called One Thinks of it All as a Dream, opening on Monday, an evening event in Òran Mór's beautiful upstairs auditorium will celebrate the life of Roger 'Syd' Barrett and dispel some of the myths about him — with the help of special guests, archive footage, and rarely seen artwork from throughout Barrett's life.
Guests are Alan Bissett, writer of One Thinks of it All as a Dream and dedicated Pink Floyd fan; Ian Barrett, Syd's nephew; John cavanagh, broadcaster and writer of the book Piper at the Gates of Dawn; and host, Nicola Meighan, broadcaster and writer for Q, MOJO, Time Out, The Quietus and The Herald.
The special event, taking place on October 20th (and not the 13th as we originally thought) runs from 7.30–9.30pm, and tickets are priced at £10. They are available by calling 08444 771 000. Òran Mòr is situated at the top of Byres Road, Glasgow G12 8QX.
Headlining the tenth Scottish Mental Health Arts & Film Festival programme is the premiere of the play itself, One Thinks of it All as a Dream, by leading Scottish writer Alan Bissett, a lifelong Pink Floyd fan. SMHAFF note that the play is their "first-ever commission, One Thinks of it All as a Dream tells the story of Syd Barrett, the leader of Pink Floyd during their first psychedelic incarnation in the 1960s. Barrett was ejected from the band after a mental breakdown, attributed variously to schizophrenia, LSD, the pressures of fame and artistic temperament; he shunned the spotlight for the rest of his life".
It will premiere at Òran Mòr on Monday, October 17th running until Saturday, October 22nd, before touring to the Traverse in Edinburgh (October 25th - 29th) and the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen (November 1st - 5th). Syd Barrett's family and the remaining members of Pink Floyd have given the play, and its soundtrack of the band's music, their blessing.
Alan Bissett said: "Syd Barrett is unique in rock n roll history, and certainly haunted Pink Floyd's music after he left. There's no figure quite like him - which is itself attractive to a dramatist - but I also wanted to explore his multi-faceted character. He was by turns charismatic, selfish, principled and vulnerable. The legend of 'Mad Syd' has been enshrined in rock lore, but I wanted to get past the acid-casualty cliches to try and find the man beneath, in all his complexity. I took the decision to go backwards and forwards in time, through all the periods of Barrett's life, to try and gain some understanding of the entwined roots of creativity and mental illness, as well as the various impulses which might have driven him to reject the modern world."

For all of you who are building their Pink Floyd vinyl collections with the very special, limited 180g remastered re-pressings of the band's studio albums, some good news for you!
On 18th November 2016, Pink Floyd Records will continue the reintroduction of the Pink Floyd catalogue on vinyl with 'Animals' remastered from the original analogue master tapes and reissued on vinyl for the first time in over 20 years. Before then, 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Dark Side of the Moon' are also back in stock on vinyl from this Friday, 14th October, and 4th November respectively.
That should just leave The Final Cut and A Momentary Lapse of Reason to be released again on vinyl, unless a decision is made to release some of the other titles too - things such as Delicate Sound of Thunder, Relics, and suchlike.
As before, these new heavyweight vinyl editions should prove extremely popular and will undoubtably sell quickly, so we recommend that those of you who are interested, place your orders as soon as you can. The dedicated ordering links are below - using these will give a small but vital contribution to the running costs of Brain Damage, without costing you a penny/cent extra, and we really appreciate it!
NOTE: Some of the stores above are yet to list the releases but the links are there for when they do. If your chosen store doesn't have it yet, please keep trying, or consider an alternate store - Amazon ship vinyl worldwide.

The show is a popular Sunday afternoon magazine show on the Cambridge 105 radio station, celebrating the best in music, theatre, books and chat, with celebrity interviews, reviews and previews.
This edition starts with a lengthly, and fascinating, insight into Syd Barrett and the early days of Pink Floyd, from one of Syd's girlfriends, Jenny Spires. Jenny's unique perspective on those days makes for a compelling listen, and her memories of the people, places, events and dates are very impressive.

Just announced, via the Floyd's official Facebook page: on October 21st, at 9pm UK, a new, hour-long Floyd compilation airs on BBC Four TV. 'Pink Floyd Beginnings 1967-1972' brings together a selection of the band's early, historic TV appearances, and is a taster for what the Pink Floyd: The Early Years 1965-1972 box set will include.
This almost sounds like a sequel to the BBC Four programme, Pink Floyd: A Miscellany, originally aired in 2011, albeit this show is focused on the first part of their professional career, whereas Miscellany took a broader look at their history.
BBC Four is available in the UK via Freeview, digital cable and satellite, and many parts of Europe can also receive the channel via satellite and other means. Alternatively, most of the BBC's programming can also be enjoyed online at BBC.co.uk, live and on demand through the BBC's iPlayer facility.

Below is a new teaser video from Roger Waters, which since it appeared late yesterday has resulted in much speculation from fans who have already seen it. With the simple caption or title of "Us + Them", followed by "Coming soon", backed by some previously unheard music and a couple of hands reaching for each other, it is an intriguing short clip. Could the tour or album announcement be on its way? More as we get it.
Of course, Sunday night sees Roger close the first of two consecutive Desert Trip weekends, with support from none other than The Who! Other artists playing earlier in the weekend include Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones (both of whom played last night), as well as Paul McCartney and Neil Young. Not a bad line-up!
Some new merchandise, including items for the Desert Trip concerts, has now appeared in Roger's online store. To see the new items, you need to go to the US or Canadian versions of the store through this link as the European store has yet to add them.
Now for the intriguing new video...
