One for our friends in the US: On Tuesday, April 4th, The Big Interview with Dan Rather has Roger Waters as his guest. The show airs at 8pm EST/7pm CST on AXS TV. In the interview, Roger will be talking about Syd Barrett, music, politics, and his upcoming Us + Them tour, which starts in North America in May. Please check your local listings for channel number and exact timings. As far as we know, this show will not be available for anyone outside the US to see, sadly.
UPDATE: Yes it will! With thanks to Michael Rowell and Joseph Mitchell for the info, if you go to this direct link at AXS.tv, you can buy (worldwide it seems) the entire interview in HD quality for $2!
With the Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains getting ever closer (it opens on May 13th 2017, at the Victoria & Albert - or V&A - in London's Kensington) we've now been given these pictures showing the first of the major artefacts arriving, and carefully being taken into the gallery reserved for Their Mortal Remains.
As you'll see from these pictures, the item in question is one of the 'metal' Division Bell heads. With an item as large (and as precious) as this, the narrow corridors and corners found in places such as the V&A prove a tricky task. However, the norm is to use a team who are used to moving such things, and the head reached its final destination.
It's great to see this final stage starting, with the exhibition becoming a reality. Tickets for the exhibition are now on sale, and are priced at £20 (Monday-Friday), £24 (Saturday-Sunday), and concessions, including family tickets at reduced prices, are available. V&A Members go free. Advance booking is strongly advised. Tickets can be purchased using these direct links at Ticketmaster, Seetickets, from the V&A at vam.ac.uk/pinkfloyd, by calling 0800 912 6961 (booking fee applies), or in person at the V&A.
Whether or not you are going to the exhibition, you can enjoy the contents of Their Mortal Remains by placing your order for the 304-page companion book, certain to be an essential addition to the Floydian bookshelf, through the following links: Amazon UK, Amazon.com, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, Amazon Germany, Amazon Spain and Amazon Italy. Orders placed before publication (due to be the opening day of the exhibition - May 13th) will benefit from Amazon's pre-order price guarantee - if the price drops at any point between your order, and the publication date, they automatically will charge you the lowest price.
Out today (March 24th), as a follow-up to the Pink Floyd The Early Years 1965-1972 box set, are the series of book-bound individual collections from the box set, which go under the title 'The Early Years, 1965-1972: The Individual Volumes'.
These individual volumes are broken down into the years 1965-1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971 and finally 1972. As those familiar with the contents of the box set will know, these go under the titles CAMBRIDGE ST/ATION, GERMIN/ATION, DRAMATIS/ATION, DEVI/ATION, REVERBER/ATION, OBFUSC/ATION, which (it has been revealed) were titles dreamt up by Roger Waters to give an insight into where the band were at that particular point in their career.
Just to clarify, the box set also included an exclusive selection of additional material, BONUS CONTINU/ATION, which is not getting a standalone release, nor will the additional memorabilia or reproduction vinyl singles be getting a release outside of the box set.
The complete Early Years box set is still available from most retailers, as is the 2CD highlights album The Early Years – CRE/ATION.
To place your orders for the individual volumes, please use the following links:
It is worth checking the other Amazon stores, rather than just your local one, as pricing varies hugely; they will ship internationally. Buying through our links will give a small but vital contribution toward running this site, and is hugely appreciated. There is NO region coding on the Blu-ray and/or DVD discs, so if purchasing from a different region (e.g. you're in North America, buying from Europe, or vice versa), then all discs should be compatible with your players.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary next month, Record Store Day 2017 hits independent record stores on April 22nd, with a special Pink Floyd release. RSD offers limited run pressings, available for one day only through independent record stores.
The item in question is a 12", single-sided 180-gram pressing, with an otherwise unreleased version of Interstellar Overdrive. This was recorded at the Thompson Private Recording Company in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, in October 1966, and used in Anthony Stern's film 'San Francisco'. It's a mono recording, around fifteen minutes long, and housed in special packaging.
As with all Record Store Day releases, it will not be available online (other than inevitably on eBay from the morning of April 18th) but while stocks last in participating independent record stores. Be prepared to get to your local store prior to opening, and be ready to queue!
There are a lot of independent stores that participate in Record Store Day. Not all of them will choose to participate in all promotions, or carry all releases. Just because a store is listed on the RSD website does NOT mean it will have the goodie or record you're looking for. That said, find a store near you and check with them directly. They won't hold an item aside for you, but at least you'll know if it will be worth the trip!
Yesterday evening, another short video has been shared on Roger Waters' social media platforms to help tease the new album. As we noted previously, "Is This The Life We Really Want?" is released on May 19th, but other than the (now three) short video clips, no other information is currently available. We suspect full details, including the opportunity to pre-order the album, will be along soon, but in the meantime, here's the third taster:
