As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Dutch venue the Paradiso, an excerpt of a TV programme called open oog (Open Eye) broadcast by the NTS broadcasting company (nowadays NOS) from 5 July 1968, is now online. It includes previously unseen footage of Pink Floyd playing at the Paradiso on May 31st of that year!
The footage is short, in black and white, and at times hard to make out which band member is on screen [click thumbnail to the left], but very interesting nonetheless. You can find it towards the end of the footage which you can see through this link. Our thanks to Charles at the specialist Floyd store, www.Floydstuff.com, for the info.

A DVD was released late last year which features a fascinating look at the wonderful world of the Mandelbrot set and fractal geometry. Narrated by the late Arthur C. Clarke, Colours Of Infinity includes a soundtrack provided by David Gilmour. Balancing the science of Benoît Mandlebrot's discoveries with absorbing imagery, David's instrumental music, unreleased elsewhere, is the perfect accompaniment.
Colours Of Infinity - previously only available with a 2004 book of the same name (more details here) - can now be seen on a DVD with three documentaries on it. Colours Are Not Spheres looks closer at Mandlebrot's life, and Is God A Number? takes a closer look at mathematics.
The DVD can be ordered direct from Amazon UK and Amazon Germany - both of which will ship the disc worldwide. Our thanks to Hans Gerlitz for the info!

As a warm-up to his guitar duties on Roger Waters' Dark Side Of The Moon tour this April and May, Dave Kilminster will be playing a special one-off concert with Murray Hockridge on April 11th.
Taking place at the beach front venue Shore Thing, in Dorset, the acoustic set should be very well received. Dave and Murray have performed before as a duo to enthusiastic audiences, and it should prove a great, intimate location to hear the pair at their best.

The annual Chelsea Festival has a very special pair of launch concerts to kick things off in style this year: Ron Geesin, the co-composer of Atom Heart Mother, will recreate Pink Floyd's iconic 1970 album - their first number one album and first Gold record.
The performances will also feature archive material from the original recording and other music by Ron Geesin, including new scores created specially for the occasion.
Ron, beavering away in his home studio, tells us that he's "nearly finished writing a new opening piece for the ten brass".

We told you recently about Tim Renwick, an old friend of David Gilmour, and a key part of Pink
Floyd's touring band from 1987 onwards, who has a new album out. Privateer is a guitar-based instrumental album, showcasing his fluid, evocative style in a range of different tracks, some of which betraying the influence Pink Floyd have had on him!
The album can only be bought from his website - www.TimRenwick.com - where you can hear clips from some of the songs. He kindly gave us a copy of the album to give away in our latest Brain Damage competition; all the correct entries have been gone through, and the lucky winner is M. Turpin from the UK. Well done to you, and better luck next time to those who weren't drawn out the BD hat!
