GLIDERS OVER HOLLYWOOD: AIRSHIPS, AIRPLAY AND THE ART OF ROCK PROMOTION, by PAUL RAPPAPORT - book OUT NOW - Published April 1st, 2025
Published on April 1st, 2025 is a fascinating new book from Jawbone - Gliders Over Hollywood: Airships, Airplay and the art of Rock Promotion, from Paul Rappaport. 'Rap', as he is often referred to, is a legend of music promotion. He spent thirty-three years at Columbia Records, where he became their senior vice-president of rock promotion, and was instrumental in so many careers.
It gives an eye-opening, insider's account of the golden age of rock, sharing never-before-told tales of his adventures with some of music's most colourful characters, including The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, and many more.
"I wrote this book to capture the magical times," explained Rappaport, "so that people wouldn't forget but also to show the many behind-the-scenes folks whose lives were so colourful they brought a warmth and
laughter to the world. If you want to know what it felt like to be there, to experience the whole scene first hand, to get the inside track on how it really all went down, these stories are for you. I welcome you to follow me down the rabbit hole to a magical place that will bring you laughter and reveal the inner workings of the music biz that you may have often wondered about."
Of the book, and Rappaport, Nick Mason said: "So, you want to work in the music business? How much do you know about it? The answer is clearly not enough — no one in their right mind could countenance such a career! But if you must, then you need this book. Rapper was there. Not only that, but he remembers most of the detail, which is more than can be said for his subjects, who have a tendency to rewrite history as they would have liked it or justify actions that should have put them in jail. It's about as close as you can get to the action without having that gold Access All Areas pass."
Praise indeed - and it IS a very entertaining read, having seen a copy already! RECORD STORE DAY 2025 - DAVID GILMOUR, ROGER WATERS, and NICK MASON'S SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS OUT NOW - Released April 12th, 2025
To celebrate Record Store Day 2025 (Saturday, April 12th), there are three, very tempting, limited edition releases coming that will be of interest to Pink Floyd fans.
Firstly, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets share an incredible live version of their interpretation of Echoes. Propelled by Nick Mason's drumming, this recording captures the band with Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt, Dom Beken and Lee Harris at the peak of their powers. The performance was recorded on August 1st, 2024 at the Centennial Hall in Frankfurt, Germany by Steve Carr. Echoes Live was mixed by Steven Wilson with consultation and assistance from Dom Beken. This 12" was half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road and uniquely plays from the inside-out for the ultimate sound quality. The B-side includes an exclusive etched design.
Secondly, there's a special clear vinyl 12" of Between Two Points by David Gilmour with Romany Gilmour, from the album Luck and Strange. The four-track, vinyl-only release will feature an exclusive live version (coupled with Vita Brevis) from the Royal Albert Hall plus a new remix by Rob Gentry.
Finally, in advance of his super deluxe box set, Roger Waters releases a special version of The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux Live. Pressed on limited-edition neon pink vinyl and recorded during two sold-out shows at the London Palladium in October 2023, this album captures the only live performance of Roger's reimagined version of Pink Floyd's seminal album.
As with the other RSD 2025 releases, these are all limited editions: often the RSD releases are pressed up as just a few thousand or so worldwide, available to snap up on the day.
And, as we've mentioned in previous years, these limited edition items are ONLY released via RSD participating stores, this year on 12th April 2025 - go to RecordStoreDay.com or RecordStoreDay.co.uk for more details of who those will be, and to get the full list of all releases in this event. A reminder that it will ONLY be these stores participating; the stores themselves can't sell it online prior - the record will become available for customers coming through the door of the store from the morning of the 12th (and not before), in limited quantities - first come, first served, and only one copy per customer. After RSD, if copies remain, they may put them for sale online (and of course, there'll also be copies on eBay inevitably...).
PINK FLOYD AT POMPEII MCMLXXII - Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD, 2LP, Digital OUT NOW - Released May 2nd, 2025
Following their acquisition of the Pink Floyd catalogue, Sony Music have today announced an excellent first release: Pink Floyd at Pompeii MCMLXXII - a newly restored version of the classic Live At Pompeii, with a superb new audio mix by Steven Wilson. It will mark the first time the music will be officially available on vinyl.
Before the home release, the iconic performance will return to the cinema screen. This new version of the groundbreaking 1972 film directed by Adrian Maben will, thanks to Trafalgar Releasing and Sony Music Vision, be in selected cinemas and IMAX worldwide from April 24th and tickets will be on sale
from March 5th at PinkFloyd.film and of course, from participating cinemas directly.
Digitally re-mastered in 4K from the original 35mm footage, with enhanced audio newly mixed by Steven Wilson, the upcoming theatrical release presents the definitive version of this pioneering film. Pink Floyd at Pompeii MCMLXXII is accompanied by the live album, set for release by Legacy Recordings, the catalogue division of Sony Music, on double CD, Digital Audio (streaming, Blu-ray and DVD), and for the very first time in Dolby Atmos and on double vinyl, from May 2nd.
Presenting a first look at the newly restored footage and audio, a taster clip of Echoes has been released today. Obviously, YouTube has limitations, and the full releases should look and sound even better!
The film has been meticulously hand restored, frame-by-frame, from the original 35mm cut negative - discovered in five dubiously labelled cans within Pink Floyd's own archives. This momentous breakthrough unearthed the very film that rolled through the cameras during those sweltering days amidst the ruins of Pompeii over 50 years ago. Led by Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, the team's mission was to preserve the integrity and beauty of the original picture. The film was scanned in 4K using advanced techniques to ensure the finest, sharpest detail. Colours were enhanced, and every frame was meticulously reviewed and repaired, maintaining a natural and vivid appearance with minimal grain adjustments.
Lana: "Since 1994, I have searched for the elusive film rushes of Pink Floyd At Pompeii, so the recent discovery of the 1972 original 35mm cut negative was a very special moment. The newly restored version presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance with the additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments filmed shortly after."
The film also features stunning sound quality with a new theatrical and home entertainment mix by Steven Wilson in 5.1 and Dolby Atmos that enhances the film's depth and clarity, preserving the authenticity and spirit of the original 1972 release. Wilson's aim was to remain faithful to how the band would have sounded on those scorching hot days in 1971:
"Ever since my dad brainwashed me as a kid by playing The Dark Side of the Moon on repeat, Pink Floyd has been my favourite band. They are my "Beatles", deeply ingrained in my musical DNA. I first saw Pompeii from a grainy print at a local cinema. It made an incredible impression on me with its untethered and exploratory rock music made by four musicians that seemed to epitomise the notion of intellectual cool. It was an honour to remix the soundtrack to accompany Lana Topham's incredible restoration of the film, which looks like it could've been filmed yesterday."
Steven's 2025 remix - either standalone, or as part of the film - will be available on CD/LP/Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Audio/Dolby Atmos from May 2nd.

OFFICIAL PINK FLOYD CALENDAR 2026 OUT NOW (selected locations) - Published June, 2025
Incredibly, as we've only just entered June, it seems that it's time of year again...now available to buy is the Official Pink Floyd 2026 Calendar! As before, it covers sixteen months, running from September 2025 through to December 2026.
It's a perennial Floyd fan favourite - particularly as a gift at Christmas time. An item which has been produced for many years now, and designed for use hanging on walls, the standardised format is roughly the same size as a vinyl album - roughly 12" (or 30cm) square, with the calendar opening up to have a double page spread per month.
The calendar this year is a celebration of the band's post 1987 period, via various images, record sleeves, and suchlike.
The calendar each year is often squirrelled away as a collectable for the years to come, and earlier examples are now quite sought after.

PINK FLOYD - SHINE ON: THE DEFINITIVE ORAL HISTORY by MARK BLAKE book Published October 9th 2025
October 9th, 2025, sees the publication of what sounds like another fascinating and essential book from acclaimed author Mark Blake. Blake is best known in the Floyd community for his excellent book, Pigs Might Fly: The Inside Story Of Pink Floyd (known as Comfortably Numb in the US) which originally came out in 2007, and subsequently updated. Other books worth searching out by Blake include titles covering Queen and Freddie Mercury, Peter Grant (Led Zeppelin's manager) and The Who.
Pink Floyd Shine On: The Definitive Oral History, which will be available as a hardback (with HMV - link below - having signed copies) or in Amazon's Kindle format, should be well worth getting your hands on. Here's how the publishers have described it: "The definitive oral history of Pink Floyd as told by friends, associates, family members and the band themselves through exclusive, never before published interviews.
"Bestselling music author Mark Blake has been an associate and collaborator of Pink Floyd for over thirty years. Shine On takes on the behemoth task of capturing the most comprehensive history of the band ever compiled, drawing on huge amounts of new, archive and unpublished interview material with Gilmour, Waters, Mason and Wright. No other writer has interviewed the members of Pink Floyd as often nor as thoroughly, which is candidly apparent in this textured, gripping and consistently surprising biography. For the first time, the band's story is told as an oral history with each chapter presented through the words of the band, their friends, contemporaries and supporting musicians. The accessible structure and high level of detail means that the narrative is both approachable to casual readers and magnetic to the committed.
"Shine On is comprised of a significant amount of previously unpublished material, including a rare interview with Rosemary Breen lamenting that her younger brother Roger, aka Syd Barrett, should have never become a musician as well as exclusive new interviews with Pink Floyd's Nick Mason and Guy Pratt, reflecting on their enduring legacy and rather more complicated recent twists and turns in the bands story.
"Shine On is a forensic retelling of one of the most turbulent and enduring groups in rock music history, a complex history that only someone as skilled and insightful as Blake can navigate."
The publishers are suggesting it will run to some 400 pages, but with Mark still working on the book, that might change slightly. Those who have read Pigs Might Fly will know that Mark's new book should be another fascinating, accessible and in-depth look at the band.

You can order the book - either as a hardback, or in Kindle format - from Amazon.com, Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Not all stores are showing it yet at time of posting this, so please keep trying until they do!
You can also order it from HMV.com which has a limited number of copies signed by the author, and has free delivery (to the UK).
PINK FLOYD: A LIVE SOUND HISTORY - MARK CUNNINGHAM Exact publication date to be confirmed, but hopefully 2025 A new book is due to be published that should prove a fascinating insight into the audio side of Pink Floyd's development. Written by music industry expert Mark Cunningham, who used to run the magazine Total Production International, Pink Floyd: A Live Sound History is due at some point but to whet your appetites, Mark has given us a sneak preview of what's to come. The book will tell the story of how Pink Floyd pioneered live sound and how equipment manufacturers fought to keep up with the band's demands for better, bigger and higher quality, in tandem with their equally adventurous touring stage productions. It will feature rare images and exclusive interviews conducted by me with key touring personnel and industry figures including Robbie Williams, Phil Taylor, Mick Kluczynski, Andy Jackson, James Guthrie, Buford Jones, Charlie Watkins (WEM), Alan Parsons, Seth Goldman, Bryan Grant and more. A large portion of the manuscript was actually proof-read by Roger Waters who made comments that have informed the content. Solo tours up to and including The Wall Live will also feature, as a way of highlighting the further progression of live sound influenced by the Floyd. At this stage, a firm date isn't available, nor are pre-orders being invited. As soon as more information is available, we will of course update you... Possibly in 2025:
- David Gilmour live album
Three of David's Luck and Strange shows in Rome, Italy, were filmed for potential release and we suspect that there will be similarities in presentation to the existing live releases from David, such as Gdansk and Pompeii. Nothing confirmed yet though.
- Roger Waters - Memoir
Three extracts were read from his memoir, when he performed a brace of shows at London's iconic Palladium. He said that it was called "I'll See You On The Dark Side Of The Moon: Memoirs Of A Lanky Prick" - but this might of course have been Roger having a bit of fun. Once we get more details, we will let you know...
- Roger Waters - The Bar
Roger has talked about working on a new album, based on (and possibly called) The Bar. Again, more details as and when.
As and when we hear anything else, we will update this page.
