This coming Friday, September 12th, sees a significant anniversary in the world of Pink Floyd. Wish You Were Here was released on that date in 1975, thus we're looking at it being the 50th anniversary of this release. Unbelievable I know! Again, a reminder of how time flies...
Interestingly, Apple Music's Pink Floyd page has had an update (other streaming services might follow suit, but not spotted yet). It looks like Sony Music, the new custodians of Pink Floyd's music, are definitely marking the anniversary in some way. As you can see from this screen grab, they have (virtually) wrapped the cover image of each of the band's albums, from 1967's The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn through to this year's Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII, with black plastic - in the same way that Wish You Were Here appeared in record stores physically, with a sticker revealing the contents. To emulate that, but cope with the small space available, they've instead gone for intriguing hints as to what the cover displays behind the black wrap.
This is nicely done and quite a fun way to mark the 50th anniversary. As yet there's nothing official to say that anything else is occurring, but could there be something else just around the corner? We'll bring you details if anything else happens or even announced!
UPDATE: The band's social media channels have also had an update, with the profile pictures and banners changed to (a virtual) black plastic wrap. Something definitely seems afoot!
