Pink Floyd: I Was There - book by Richard Houghton/Neil Cossar

Back in June, music writer Richard Houghton got in touch while he was researching a book about Pink Floyd. He asked for fans who saw them perform live in the late 1960s and early 1970s to get in touch with their memories.

Brain Damage visitors did did get in touch with Houghton, who has also written 'people's histories' of The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Who, and the resulting book, "Pink Floyd: I Was There" by Neil Cossar and Richard Houghton has just been published (earlier than expected).

Houghton said at the time: "I'm interested in capturing people's memories for posterity and hopefully telling the band's story in a slightly different way via first hand account of their earliest shows."

we're looking forward to seeing the book soon, and our review of the book should be here shortly. Houghton's recently published The Who: I Was There shows the concept, and it is an interesting one. Organised chronologically, "Pink Floyd: I Was There" will have recollections from those who attended the shows - some just a couple of lines, others providing much more lengthy trips down memory lane. The book will be peppered with black and white pictures - ticket scans, photos of the band in action, posters, and suchlike. With over 400 contributors, there should be a wide variety of memories and experiences, and should make for an interesting read.
