Saturday saw the first of the guided walks of Syd Barrett's Cambridge, run by I-SpySydInCambridge in conjunction with Brain Damage. The walk, a tour of the city that took in many of the more significant sites which were connected to the life and times of Syd, and the various bands which lead to Pink Floyd, provided a fascinating and illuminating look at those early days.

The hosts of the tour - personal friends of Syd, who grew up with him - shared their own memories of school days and beyond with Syd, Roger, David, and other Floyd illumni who lived and worked in Cambridge. We were guided round by Warren Dosanjh (manager of Those Without), with the help of Mick Brown (who went to The Perse - the same school as David Gilmour), Dave Parker (friend of David Gilmour and a key part of the Cambridge music scene in the early 60s), and the lovely Jenny Spires (lifelong friend of Syd).

The unique insights these people gave us on the stroll around the city made the three hours fly by, with attendees absorbing the stories being shared. The tours meets at the front of the Guildhall, Market Square and start at 10.30am, so if you will be travelling to Cambridge, make sure you give yourself enough time so that you don't miss the start. The tours are meant to last about two hours but in reality it's normally more like three hours, as the memories and stories start flowing from those who really knew Syd and the others.
