Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1967WELCOME TO THE 25th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, NICK MASON, DAVID GILMOUR AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

Last year was busy, with things such as the deluxe box set marking the 50th anniversary of The Dark Side Of The Moon, with a new remaster of the album, coupled with a number of other things including books and the Wembley 1974 TDSOTM recording. Some of the elements (including the official book) have also been released separately - full details here. There's also the extremely lovely limited edition, UV printed crystal clear 2LP vinyl edition of TDSOTM...

A long hoped for reissue of Richard Wright's Wet Dream, remixed by Steven Wilson with a new stereo AND surround mix, is out now, and absolutely superb, really bringing a forgotten gem back to life and it sounds better than ever.

It's not that long before we get the UK and European dates announced for the Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour, after the 2022/23 shows managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations!. In the meantime don't forget that there's the live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

David Gilmour's new album, Luck and Strange, has now been announced and is being released on September 6th in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. In the new issue of Uncut magazine, he also talks about upcoming concert dates, so watch this space!

Finally, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

Syd Barrett - happy 60th birthday! Print E-mail

Today, 6th January, marks the 60th birthday of Pink Floyd founding member Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett.

Syd Barrett
Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett
Born in Glisson Road, in Cambridge, back in 1946, Roger showed interest in music from a very early age.

It was at a jazz club in his home town that a drummer there - one Sid Barrett - gave the lad the nickname Syd, spelt differently to avoid confusion. The name stuck!

Syd stayed with Pink Floyd until early 1968, when David Gilmour joined the band to supplement their playing.

It wasn't long before Syd was no longer part of the band (with his condition worsening day-by-day, some could argue he wasn't part of the band for some time prior to this), but undaunted, he started out on a solo career which revealed his fragile state to the world.

For those of you unaware, Brain Damage has a free download for you - a 21st anniversary edition of Malcolm Jones' fascinating book "The Making Of The Madcap Laughs". It is in PDF format, so if you cannot view it, please visit Adobe.com for their free viewer.

Our many happy returns to Roger on this very special day.
