Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1968WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are now here - with some more cinema screenings in selected places. However you experience it, it is NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info! Before all that though is the release of Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill Live In Prague on 4LP vinyl, Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD and digital on August 1st!

Storm Thorgerson US exhibition tour - update Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Monday, 06 June 2005

Further to our previous news items about the US tour of "Taken By Storm: The Art of Storm Thorgerson", travelling the USA in 2005/2006, we have a review and pictures of the first venue on the tour - Chicago - and news of subsequent shows that have either been confirmed, or are in the process of being confirmed.

The first stop for the exhibition was Chicago at Inspire Fine Art, where it ran from May 6th - June 5th. Below are some pictures and a report from there, courtesy of Seth of Floydhead.Com, Brain Damage's Chicago correspondent!

The exhibition is now travelling to Los Angeles (actually Glendale) at the Forest Lawn Museum where it will be part of the larger "Art in Music" exhibition. The exhibition will run July 30th - October 9th.

Miami has just been confirmed as next stop on the tour, appearing at Fache Arts between November 3rd - 26th. In addition, New York, San Francisco, and museums in Philadelphia and Denver are also under consideration.

Once the exhibition has finished touring the US, it will continue to Asia and Europe in 2006. Limited edition signed and numbered fine art prints, original sculpture and one-of-a-kind artwork will be available at participating galleries, on the gallery websites and at www.takenbystorm.us, where you will find up-to-date information on the tour.

At the London show, we enjoyed a long and fascinating chat with Storm. Highlights of our conversation and pictures of the exhibition can be seen in our interview section.

The exhibition, held at the John Martin Gallery in Chelsea, featured a wealth of absorbing images, and was a great look through Storm's career to date. It was great news that the show was to travel, and we are pleased to bring you details of these shows.

Our thanks to Colin over at our sister site, A Fleeting Glimpse for the latest updates, and Seth for the pictures and review of the Chicago show. We'll have more news about the tour as it moves around the country, and indeed, the world! The official site for "Taken By Storm" can be found at www.takenbystorm.us.

Storm Thorgerson - Taken By Storm - Chicago
Report by Seth of Floydhead.Com, Brain Damage's Chicago correspondent

Storm Thorgerson is an international artist, best sought for his amazing album cover designs. He helped to fortify the art of the "concept album" in the late 60’s, with the collaboration of (band members he grew up with named) Pink Floyd. His success in creating astonishingly meaningful and symbolic artwork for that band opened floodgates...

Other Storm album cover designs for bands include: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Genesis, Cranberries, Peter Gabriel, Paul McCartney, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Muse, Foreigner, The Offspring, Ween, Catherine Wheel, Alan Parsons, The Scorpions, The Mars Volta, Foreigner, Styx, Megadeath, Audioslave, Phish... among many others.

Already owning a couple of his signed and numbered pieces ("Tree of Half Life", and "Back Catalogue"), I visited Storm’s exhibit with the intention of buying another piece ("Interstellar"), as well as meeting him, getting some photo's / signatures, and pitching my next album project idea to him. Surprisingly, all went well...

Liz, the owner of the Gallery (Inspire Fine Art) was gracious, friendly, and a wonderful host. All of the artwork was laid out perfectly. It was great to learn some of the stories behind the artwork, such as Audioslave’s (bronze flame, above, top right) inspired during Storm’s second visit to Pompeii, 30 years later, for the Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii DVD release.

It was refreshing to see new cutting-edge bands such as Muse utilize Storm’s genius... and a number of their artworks were on display.

[Surveying Storm's signature and dedication] Yeahhh..."Crazy Seth!" I told him I wanted something simple - like the cow! Not complex like the beds on the ocean, my bank ain’t got that much bling!
