Roger Waters Ca Ira interview updates Print E-mail

The last couple of days have seen a couple more television interviews with Roger Waters, relating to his newly released opera Ca Ira.

The first of these was an interview, recorded in New York on Tuesday, and broadcast on Thursday, on US based news channel CNN. You can launch the interview, running just under five minutes, by visiting their website.

The interview is quite interesting, although revelations were thin on the ground, with the expected questions appearing. Interviewed by CNN's A.J. Hammer, the topics covered included Ca Ira, and the relation between the French Revolution and today's issues.

The Pink Floyd reunion at Live 8 is also covered. Roger doesn't discount a further reunion, but it would depend on a good charitable or political cause - so no change to his viewpoint there. He does use the phrase "very unlikely" talking about the "mega-bucks tour", so doesn't COMPLETELY rule it out! There was a different question posed, asking who he thought in today's pop world would be seen as still significant and relevent in the future - this generation's Rolling Stones, Dylan, or McCartney. He responds that he "isn't very good at listening to pop music" so didn't feel best placed to answer this, but points out that it could be bands that have fallen a bit from favour critically, such as REM, who might make a big comeback in the future. He highlights "Everybody Hurts" as a particularly good song of theirs.

Our thanks to Andrew McClain for his assistance with this information.

Roger also appeared on the UK-based Sky News TV channel, yesterday (30th September). Interviewed about Ca Ira, it apparently had good shots of the orchestra hard at work, and was repeated each hour during the morning. Sadly we didn't manage to catch this, and as yet, they are not streaming the clip on their website. More information on this interview as and when we get it!
