Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1987WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

We now know that Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are on their way, with the releases on May 2nd, and the cinema screenings shortly before. NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

Roger Waters bass guitar to be auctioned Print E-mail

A black Fender Precision bass guitar is being donated by Roger Waters to aid the United Nations Foundation's campaign to eradicate malaria. The instrument, which most of us automatically associate with Roger as his "classic" bass, will be auctioned off.

The auction will be held before Roger's Dubai concert on February 21st, most probably to be held live on radio a few days before the concert (although this detail is yet to be confirmed).

"We'll take the highest bidder backstage so that they can meet Roger Waters when he signs the guitar. We'll make a cheque out to the United Nations Foundation then," said Padma Coram from promoters The Talent Brokers.

Such an iconic instrument so closely linked with Roger and the history of Pink Floyd, is bound to go for a high figure - especially with the winner meeting Roger backstage.

For more details of the charity and its' work, visit www.unfoundation.org/malaria.
UPDATE, February 19th: The bass was auctioned off last night for a record Dh450,000, with an Indian businessman placing the lucky last bid.

Successful bidder, Rajan Kilachand, a Dubai-based Indian businessman and avid collector of musical memorabilia, said he was "very happy" with the outcome. "I grew up listening to the 70's groups like Pink Floyd and I have previously bought a [Carlos] Santana guitar in a similar radio-auction," he told Gulf News.

"I really wanted to pursue the bidding as far as I could, and my bid was the highest, so I am very happy right now. The money goes to a good cause as well, so it's worth it."

Waters will sign the guitar before the concert, which is being held at Dubai Media City on Wednesday.
