VH1 Europe have compiled the list of the greatest songs of the past 25 years, as decided by executives at the TV station. Nirvana's "Teen Spirit" gets the coveted number one spot, followed by Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", and "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns 'n' Roses in third place. Pink Floyd's "Another Brick (Part 2)" was one of the highest placed UK tracks, reaching a creditable fifteenth.

In a separate poll, in the new issue of the UK's Heat magazine, UK music's biggest earners of 2003 are analysed. The Rolling Stones take top spot with £55.3million, McCartney follows with £40million, and Elton John comes up behind them with £34million. Pink Floyd share joint sixteenth place with The Beatles, both earning £8.75million last year. The figures are based on estimates of income derived from record sales, touring revenue, DVD sales, merchandising income, music publishing royalties and the cryptically listed "other income"!
