Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1968WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are now here - with some more cinema screenings in selected places. However you experience it, it is NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info! Before all that though is the release of Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill Live In Prague on 4LP vinyl, Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD and digital on August 1st!

Major Pink Floyd feature and interviews in Word Magazine - update Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Sunday, 07 November 2004

We mentioned yesterday the upcoming feature on Pink Floyd in the excellent Word Magazine. Thanks to the Word team, we now have our copy of this issue, and heartily recommend you track down a copy when it hits the stores!

Initially, the band were due to appear on the cover, but with the tragic death of John Peel, 48 hours before they went to press, a tribute to the DJ has taken precedence (naturally). Pink Floyd, one of John's favourite bands, still appears, as a drop in at the top of the cover (see right).

The main interest in the issue rests in the in-depth look at the history of the band, told through the words of Roger Waters and Nick Mason. Now, Nick's comments supplement his excellent new book "Inside Out", so although he expands on some of the stories within, if you are fortunate enough to have read "Inside Out" already, there will be little new.

However, the real meat comes with Roger's reaction to Nick's version of events. He enters a self-acknowledged rant mode, and gives his views on the version of events in the book.

This makes fascinating reading - Roger pulls few punches, especially when referring to David Gilmour - and worries about the effect his views might have on his recently rekindled relationship with Nick. However, he carries on regardless (and is generally pretty light-hearted about it all anyway)!

After reading the article, one definitely gets the feeling that Roger's take on the band's history - if it ever were committed to paper and published - would make a fascinating contrast to Nick's book.

Elsewhere in the issue is a large tribute to John Peel, which taking aside his relationship with Pink Floyd, is a fascinating look at his life and career. There is also an interview with Robyn Hitchcock, long time Syd fan.

If you can't find Word Magazine in a shop near you, (and the December 2004 issue reported on here goes on sale from November 9th in the UK), try www.wordmagazine.co.uk. Our thanks again to editor Mark Ellen for keeping us posted with information regarding this Floyd special - cheers, Mark!
