Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1968WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are now here - with some more cinema screenings in selected places. However you experience it, it is NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info! Before all that though is the release of Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill Live In Prague on 4LP vinyl, Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD and digital on August 1st!

Gilmour/Floyd coverage in new magazines Print E-mail

A couple of magazines should be hitting the shelves just about now, that include a good amount of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour coverage on their pages.

First up is the UK's Mojo Magazine. Its August 2006 issue has a major chunk of coverage given over to the Mojo Honours List 2006, which we reported on, back on June 6th. The article has some great portraits of the winners - including David Gilmour - taken by master lensman Ross Halfin (who took a load of great shots of Gilmour earlier in the year - reported on here).

David won the Mojo Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented by friend, neighbour, and current bandmate Phil Manzanera. David noted how he was "more terrified [being up on stage alone accepting the award] than I was playing the Albert Hall!"

A brief interview appears alongside David's portrait, which includes the encouraging answer that "I've enjoyed [On An Island] so much that I can't wait to start fiddling around in my studio again".

Completing their coverage of the event are some backstage pictures, and details of some items they are auctioning for charity - a signed Les Paul guitar, signed van doors (!), and a set of four, specially printed and signed covers, each one of a kind.

Elsewhere in the issue is a small picture of Gilmour and David Bowie hugging each other at London's Royal Albert Hall. Bowie did a great Arnold Layne and Comfortably Numb on the first of Gilmour's three consecutive shows there at the end of May.

Mojo is available now in the UK, and in a number of countries as an import. More details can be found at www.mojo4music.com.

The awards ceremony itself can be heard on Mojo Radio again on July 29th at 9pm, and July 30th at 11pm. Mojo Radio is on Sky channel 0182, and Freeview channel 721.

Appearing on French store shelves this week is the August issue of the long-running Rock et Folk magazine.

As you will see from the cover shot to the right, it is a Pink Floyd special. The strapline on the cover asks "Can they reform?" and there are thirty pages inside the magazine that look at the band's history, and what could be ahead of them.

Whilst we haven't seen the magazine yet, French publications always tend to have a range of great, otherwise unseen pictures of the band from all eras of their career. The coverage is split into a number of sections, with articles looking at "The Obscure Side Of Floyd", "The English Psychedelic Scene", "I Am Full Of Dust and Guitars", and "Children of Floyd".

The magazine does not tend to be available outside of France, but if you visit www.rocknfolk.com in a month or two's time, they may have it available to buy as a back issue. These, they sell worldwide.

Our thanks to Alain Natali for letting us know about this...
