Floyd/Waters Live 8 reunion - Word Magazine interviews Print E-mail

The August 2005 issue of British publication Word Magazine, which hits UK stores this coming Thursday, is worth tracking down. The reunion of Roger Waters with Pink Floyd for the Live 8 concert on July 2nd is given extensive coverage in the magazine.

Over eight pages, the writers look at "The Sailing Organist" (Richard Wright), "The Golfing Bassist" (Waters), "The Petrolhead Drummer" (Nick Mason), and "The Airborne Guitarist" (David Gilmour), analysing their lives and careers after the days of the band's biggest successes, and looking at what the future holds for each member.

Nick is interviewed in some detail about the reunion, how some of the others felt about it, and how it might change things in the future (particularly relating this to David's proposed solo tour next year).

Probably the most interesting aspect of the piece is Bob Geldof, telling the full story of how he first put the idea into their heads, and how gradually he won them around. It's a fascinating look at possibly the trickiest negotiations that anyone in the music industry would ever face! He also talks of how the initial get-together in the rehearsal rooms went, and why he thought their reunion was such a big story for Live 8.

The magazine is available internationally in selected stores, as an import, or can be ordered directly by mail order, from www.WordMagazine.co.uk.
