The organisers of the world's first official tribute to the life and work of Syd Barrett - The City Wakes - have appealed for those who knew Barrett during his youth in Cambridge, to get in touch.
As part of the 11-day tribute, a new book is being written with interviews based on the memories of Syd's friends and family, along with some unique memorabilia from their personal collections. In an appeal made in local newspaper The Cambridge News, those who knew Barrett in the early 60s, and those who lived in the city at the time and went to the same bars, clubs and events as Barrett, are being sought for their contributions. More details of the book, and what those making the appeal are after, can be read at the Cambridge News website. To share your memories, you should email
