Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1968WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are now here - with some more cinema screenings in selected places. However you experience it, it is NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

2015 Borris House Festival of Writing and IdeasBack on March 8th we told you about David Gilmour joining his wife Polly Samson for the upcoming 2015 Borris House Festival of Writing and Ideas. The three-day event, which takes place in June, is held in Co. Carlow, Ireland. Polly's new book, A Kindness, was published last month to much critical acclaim.

David is set to join Polly in a discussion, which now has the fitting title "Louder Than Words", about their songwriting partnership, on June 6th at midday. Polly wrote lyrics for The Division Bell, and for Louder Than Words on The Endless River. She also contributed towards On An Island and is doing the same for David's forthcoming album, due in September to coincide with the recently announced concerts.

Polly told the Irish Times: "A friend of ours curates the festival and asked if I could get David to come along. She works so hard on it that even without consulting David, I said I'm sure we could get him to do it. And when I asked, he readily agreed."

Polly continued: "I was always reluctant to be open about it, because it felt like the domain of men with guitars. But David talked a lot about it in the interviews he did for The Endless River, and it was almost like being outed. Then there was suddenly a few articles about writers who were lyricists, especially after Michael Chabon wrote lyrics for Mark Ronson. It turned out Kazuo Ishiguro wrote lyrics and then I was included too, so then it felt okay to talk about - it felt like there were other writers who were lyricists, and we're allowed to do more than one type of writing."

The festival runs from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th June, and is held at Borris House. This is said to be one of the most spectacular houses in Ireland. It sits at the foot of the Blackstairs Mountains, on the banks of the River Barrow, in the small village of Borris in the hinterland of South County Carlow.

Until now, only weekend tickets have been on sale, but now you can buy tickets for individual days, through VisualCarlow.ie, which directly links to the day that David and Polly will be appearing. Our thanks to Tom B for letting us know that these are now available.

UPDATE, May 6th: Individual tickets are now available for the David and Polly session alone - cheaper than the full day tickets. You can order yours through this direct link. Our thanks to Shane O'Neill for letting us know.
