Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1968WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are now here - with some more cinema screenings in selected places. However you experience it, it is NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

Further to our previous stories about the release of David Gilmour's new single, "Smile", we now have more details for you, including the cover art and the promo video for it, and an update on the vinyl edition of David's album.

"Smile" will be released on June 5th in the UK/Europe, following the five dates that David is playing in the UK, showcasing his new album, On An Island, alongside a fluid selection of Pink Floyd classics.

The first of these dates is tomorrow night, at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, before heading for Glasgow's Clyde Auditorium and three nights at London's Royal Albert Hall (which are being recorded for a DVD coming towards the end of this year).

The single will be available as a 7" single on clear vinyl, and as a CD. Both have the album version of the song, alongside the first commercial release of "Island Jam", a track that was available for a limited time from David's own website around Christmas 2005, and was also given away with initial copies of the album from the US store "Best Buy".

The tracks should also be available around the same date on legal download services, too, and iTunes will have an exclusive of the 'demo' version of Smile.

For those who haven't heard the song, it is a very intimate love song, co-written by David and his wife, Polly Samson. First performed live back in 2002 at the Royal Festival Hall concerts, it is one of the oldest pieces to end up on the album On An Island, and has many devotees.

The promo video for the track has also just been released, and it can be currently seen online over at DavidGilmour.com. A beautiful, calm bit of film, it includes various shots back-projected onto a sheet, hanging on a line... a very effective and unusual tactic. A few screengrabs are shown to the right, but be sure to catch the whole thing soon.

The CD single can be pre-ordered through the following special links, for delivery upon its release: Amazon US/International, Canada, UK/Europe, France, or Germany. We should have links for the vinyl 7" edition shortly.

We know many of you are eagerly awaiting the vinyl LP edition of David's On An Island, and David's site has just announced that there's been a slight delay, with it arriving the same day as the single - June 5th. It will be a heavy-weight, virgin vinyl release, including a gatefold sleeve with a new Steve Knee montage, a 33 inch x 22 inch double-sided poster, plus all the lyrics and credits.

The album has been mastered in Los Angeles by Bernie Grundman and Doug Sax, but does include slight edits to the songs on side 2, to optimise the audio quality. As we've noted before, it is a single album, not double - many retailers (online and offline) are still making reference to a 2 LP set, erroneously.

They also noted recently that release plans via SonyBMG for territories outside Europe have not yet been finalised, so there will be more news about those countries in the near future.

If you aren't in the UK or Europe (and cannot wait!), you can still order the vinyl edition of the album through the following special links, as Amazon ship them worldwide: Amazon UK/Europe, France, or Germany. Any item bought through these links at Amazon (not just Floyd items) helps with the running costs of the site, and we really appreciate it.

Our thanks to our friends at EMI and David's management for their help and information.
