Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1968WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are now here - with some more cinema screenings in selected places. However you experience it, it is NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

David Gilmour album/tour musician line-up builds! Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Sunday, 01 January 2006

Despite the Christmas break, one aspect of David Gilmour's website (DavidGilmour.com) has been updated throughout on a daily basis.

The fascinating "blog" (aka weblog) has had news and information posted each day, along with an exclusive picture from the sessions taken by David's wife Polly. Whilst some of the pictures are of David, others are of the various musicians who are involved with the project, and as each day passes, little bits of information are appearing which are building a bigger picture of the line-up!

The latest bit of information has come our way courtesy of Dolf van Stijgeren, who runs the Crosby Stills Nash & Young fansite 4waysite.com.

He tells us that Stevie DiStanislao, the master drummer of CPR (David Crosby's band), has been added to David's band for the 2006 World Tour.

David attended a Crosby, Stills & Nash concert in London, and Crosby and Nash both contribute to David's new album.

Rehearsals for the tour are reported to start around now, in the UK.

In terms of other touring personnel, things are quite vague at present. You may recall that recently, we posted information on Guy Pratt's solo tour.

Guy plays bass guitar on David's new album, and we've had a couple of emails from people who've also realised that Guy's dates cunningly avoid David's dates, meaning that he could be in the touring band. Make of that what you will!

From various entries on David's blog (which is a fascinating glimpse inside the album recording process) it is clear that the following are involved in the album recordings:

  • Richard Wright - keyboards
  • Guy Pratt - bass guitar
  • David Crosby - vocals
  • Graham Nash - vocals
  • Paul "Wix" Wickens - keyboards
  • Phil Manzanera - guitar
  • Ged Lynch - drums
  • Lucy Wakeford - harp
  • Caroline Dale - cello
  • Robert Wyatt - trumpet
  • Jools Holland - piano
  • Leszek Mozdzer - piano
  • Zbigniew Preisner - orchestration
  • Chris Stainton - keyboards
  • Rado (Bob) Klose - guitar

The very last of these names will be familiar to a number of you - Rado was one of the very early members of the band, who left the band before they became successful. Seen in the fascinating Dark Side Of The Moon classic albums documentary, it was a shock to read on David's site that he is involved in this new project. An excellent guitarist, Rado should add a new element to the album.

The other surprise element to current knowledge about the album, is that David performs the saxophone duties. He took up the instrument to assist Charlie, his son, in Charlie's studies of the sax.

Obviously, more news (and realistic rumours) as we get them! And bear in mind, that although someone might be involved in the recordings, until the album is mixed and the tracks selected, any performers or performances could be left in the editing suite!

In other news, a reminder that David's guest appearance in the BBC comedy "Three Men In A Boat" airs tomorrow night. We understand that he appears in just the first part of this two-part show, but cannot guarantee this - so tune in to the second part just in case!

Finally, our friend Titus Jenning's DG Guest Spot Special radio show gets a timely repeat this week, on Pipeline Radio. The Special is a two hour show of material on which David guests as either a guitarist or vocalist, on other people's recordings.

Artists included in the line-up include Paul McCartney, BB King, Kate Bush, Dream Academy and Snowy White.

As this is a web-based station, they don't have specific time slots at present - rather the programmes "loop" across the server, so it airs on rotation up until January 5th or 6th. However, listeners in Scandinavia and The Baltics can also pick Pipeline up on 1386 AM every Wednesday night from 23:00 CET for two hours.
