WOW - it's now the 27th YEAR of Brain Damage, your Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Syd Barrett, Richard Wright and Roger Waters news resource!
Marking the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's iconic 1975 album, a range of Wish You Were Here 50 celebratory editions: deluxe box set, blu-ray, 3LP set, 2CD set and coloured vinyl single LPs came out at the end of last year. Full details here. The LA 1975 concert, recorded by Mike Millard and remastered by Steven Wilson, came out as a standalone item on 4LP for Record Store Day, and 2CD across most of the world.
The stunningly restored and remixed Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, and digital was also released in 2025 - and is NOT to be missed. As is the 4K UltraHD edition out now!
Also last year, celebrating the concerts to coincide with David Gilmour's album, Luck and Strange, cinema/IMAX screenings, and a book, 2Blu-ray, 3DVD, 4LP, 2CD and deluxe box set options were also released and are getting very high praise.
The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's their RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.
Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too much longer before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info! Before all that though is the release of Roger Waters This Is Not A Drill Live In Prague on 4LP vinyl, Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD and digital which is out now.

Dark Side Of The Moon changed your life! |

You will recall that the other day,
we reported that Pink Floyd's 1973 classic album had been included in a
special shortlist of "Music To Change Your Life" - a special search for
a song that has the power to change lives, that was held on BBC Radio 2.
 |
| Music To Change Your Life |
The UK radio station's presenter
Jeremy Vine initiated the search, his listenership suggested the top
ten tracks (although in Floyd's case, it was a whole album!), and then
it went to a public vote. Many thousands made their choice, and a
decisive winner was Dark Side Of The Moon!
"Dark Side of the Moon won hands
down. People just love it. For its mammoth sense of scale and all the
invention, it's still wonderful," Jeremy explained.
For each song, a member of the
public put the case for the music, to two "musical virgins" - two men
who have never bought an album in their life. To persuade them of Dark
Side's worth, Brain Damage's Bruce Tippen was enlisted to explain what
makes it so special.
With Bruce's comments helping to
seal the victory of the album, BBC Radio 2 managed to set up a quick
conversation between Bruce and David Gilmour, who said of the album
getting the top spot: "It's fantastic. What can I say except be
thrilled. It's a good combination of great music and great lyrics. It's
music for people who have a brain as well as a soul, I think.
"The theme that Roger tackles so
well with his words are universal and they are just as relevant today
as they were 33 years ago when it first came out."
Here's the full result of the public vote:
- Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd (23%)
- Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley (17%)
- God Only Knows - Beach Boys (16%)
- Chorus Of The Hebrew Slaves - Giuseppe Verdi (9%)
- Everybody Hurts - REM (8%)
- Imagine - John Lennon (8%)
- Something Inside So Strong - Labi Siffre (7%)
- Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen (7%)
- Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland (3%)
- Say a Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin (2%)
Our congratulations to Pink Floyd for triumphing in this poll, against some stiff opposition.
You can listen to the nomination for Floyd in Thursday's show, and the interview with David in Friday's show, through www.bbc.co.uk/radio2
and follow the "Listen Again" link. Select the "Jeremy Vine show" and
click on Thursday, or Friday. These will be available for seven days
following broadcast.
