The Making Of The Madcap Laughs, by Malcolm Jones (File size: 314KB)
It
is now twenty one years since producer Malcolm Jones published, as a
limited print run, his recollections of the making of Syd Barrett's
Madcap Laughs album.
The book was since reprinted in
1986 by Opel and Terrapin Syd Barrett fanzines, but has been
unavailable in a complete edition for some time now. There are a number
of poor, incomplete photocopies, along with some incomplete and
inaccurate electronic versions, circulating currently - certainly not
what the author intended.
In 1997, Brain Damage was
arranging to reprint it; sadly, Malcolm Jones passed away shortly after
we started to make arrangements for this. Brain Damage Magazine ceased
publication not that long after.
However, as a tribute to his work
on this project, and his desire for the story to be seen by the people
most interested in it - Syd's fans - it was something we were very keen
to ensure happened, and so we are pleased to finally present, with
thanks to, and in memory of, Malcolm Jones, a new, 21st anniversary
edition of his fascinating work.
