PLEASE NOTE THAT ROGER WATERS WILL NOT BE TAKING PART IN THIS EVENT. IT IS A STAGING OF HIS OPERA, CA IRA, WHICH HE HAS APPROVED AND WELCOMED, BUT LIKE THE OTHER CA IRA PERFORMANCES, HE HIMSELF DOES NOT PARTICIPATE.

Capacity: 700

Concert starts: 8:00pm (TBC)

Address of venue: Rua Tapajós, s/n - Centro, Manaus, Brazil. MAP

Website: www.manausonline.com

There will be three performances of Ça Ira at the 12th Amazonas Opera Festival in Manaus, Brazil. They will be on the 15th, 22nd and 24th April. It is a fully staged Brazilian (Amazonas) production. The first of the three performances will open the XII Festival Amazonas Opera.

The location for the productions is the spectacular, 700-seat Amazon Theatre (Teatro Amazonas). This is an opera house located in the heart of Manaus, which is inside the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. Tickets for the three performances can only be obtained from the theatre itself... Our thanks to Elzira Miotto for help with this information.

Elzira kindly translated Roger's interview with the Brazilian newspaper Folha, which appeared during the preparations for the concert:

"I have shivers just imagining myself working in the Amazon. 'Fitzcarraldo' by Werner Herzog is my main reference of the Amazon Theatre, and I feel as if I knew the people there".

Referring to the Poznan and Kiev performances Roger said that he hasn't stopped working on Ça Ira. "I learned a lot with the performances, I am editing and writing the opera successively. I made a new aria for the Manaus staging, and I think that the theatrical structure is stronger now".

Roger also said that the classical music universe may be a new direction after his retirement from live performances. "You know, the musicians who played Ça Ira, are always asking me: "Why don't you write for our instruments?", and I adore the sound of the oboes, the cellos, the flutes.

"I am English and, finally, I found a home in the USA. I went through many house moves, I had various relationships with women that didn't come out right, but I think that now I am at the age to settle. Who knows, maybe this is the moment to be quiet somewhere writing and realizing, finally, the fantasy of not being under pressure all the time."

Elzira adds that Caetano Vilela, the scenic director, has posted some pictures of the opera staging on his blog which can be seen here.
