A couple of days ago we announced who will be playing sax on the David Gilmour "On An Island" tour. Pink Floyd's legendary sax player Dick Parry is the one, playing the parts that David himself performs on the album, and no doubt on some Floyd classics. He is currently touring with the Violent Femmes, and we have details of where you can catch him prior to the Gilmour shows.
A session musician who has worked with the likes of John Entwistle and Rory Gallagher, Dick has been a friend of David's since childhood and toured with Pink Floyd during the Seventies.
Dick gave up playing the
saxophone and became a farrier, yet David managed to convince him to
record and tour 1994's 'Division Bell' album. Since then, he has played with David in Paris and London in 2001 and 2002, and also played his part in the famous Pink Floyd reunion for Live 8 last July. Dick is currently on the road with Violent Femmes, and Brian Ritchie, who formed the band in 1980, got in contact with us with the dates that Dick will be playing with them, as part of the Horns Of Dilemma, on the run up to his work with David Gilmour. You can catch the Violent Femmes in the following places:
Our thanks to Brian for getting in contact. You can find out more about Violent Femmes at vfemmes.com.
