Syd Barrett's sister, Rosemary Breen, yesterday revealed that she had been overwhelmed by the tributes paid to her brother, who sadly passed away on July 7th.

Speaking to the Cambridge Evening News, she said that she'd been inundated with cards and letters of support from fans all over the world.

The newspaper also noted that many are still making pilgrimages to Barrett's house in a quiet suburb of Cambridge, leaving flowers and messages outside.

Mrs Breen said: "[My brother would have thought] it was all very funny. He simply couldn't understand hero worship. One of the reasons he left the music business was because he didn't believe what he was doing was anything so special. That's what happens when someone is gifted; they don't see why everyone else isn't doing what they are.

"We always knew he was held in great esteem, but the reaction has surprised us - to me though, he was always just my brother."

Referring to the messages of support, she said: "The kindness shown to me and the affectionate memories told to me have been so comforting. Thank you for all the letters and cards from Cambridge and around the world. It's wonderful to know he lives on in the hearts of so many."

Syd's family are being told about the online book of condolence on this site - if you've not left your thoughts yet, click here to visit the book and leave your comments. We are sure that your thoughts and prayers will be a comfort to them.

A number of suggestions for memorials to Syd have been made. Mrs Breen commented that it should be something for others to decide upon, but noted that it should reflect his personality - "something off the wall and eccentric."

Finally, there are many rumours abounding that Pink Floyd are reforming for a tribute show for Syd. We understand that there is absolutely no truth in these rumours but should the situation change, we will let you know.
