David Gilmour gets "Grammy" nomination

Last night, the 49th Grammy Awards nominees were announced, and amongst those in the running is David Gilmour. He has received a nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for Castellorizon, the first track on his 2006 album "On An Island". A number of you will recall that David plays guitar on the Alan Parsons album "A Valid Path", and this too has been nominated, as Best Surround Sound Album. The 49th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 11th, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live in the US in high definition TV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS from 8 - 11:30pm ET/PT. David is amongst a large group of British performers who have been nominated, including Sir Paul McCartney, Sting, UB40, and James Blunt, who is up for five awards. Neil Young and Bob Dylan, favourites of Pink Floyd band members, both have a number of nominations as well. David's nomination is in category 19, and he is up against the Arctic Monkeys (Chin Li's Flying Bird Kick), The Flaming Lips (The Wizard Turns On...), Peter Frampton (Black Hole Sun), and Joe Satriani (Super Colossal). Interestingly enough, the official nomination for David misspells the track as "Catsellorizon"! Alan's nomination is in category 93 (out of a total of 108 categories... as you can see, the Awards cover a LOT of ground!) and he is competing with Tony Papa, Elliot Scheiner, Martin Walters, and Morten Lindberg & Hans Peter L'Orange.
