COMMENTS
When Nick Mason (during the press launch of the Rome staging of The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains) made comments in Italy about heading out to small venues, to play early Pink Floyd songs, few took the remarks seriously. As unlikely as it seemed, Nick was entirely truthful and in the initial announcement a set of four shows in London were announced for his new band. Due to the critical success of those shows in May 2018, held in small venues in Camden and Putney, a full European tour was announced for September. The expanded shows for the full tour were even more highly acclaimed, and it came as no surprise when further dates for 2019 were announced!
Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets brings together some familiar names, all great musicians: joining Nick are Gary Kemp and Lee Harris on guitars, Guy Pratt on bass, and Dom Beken on keyboards. Kemp is best known for his work with Spandau Ballet, Harris as having played guitar with The Blockheads (Ian Dury's band), Pratt needs no introduction, and Beken is principally known for his work with The Orb, and Transit Kings (with Pratt). The band will be playing early Pink Floyd songs.
This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd's celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums 'The Piper At The Gates of Dawn' and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'.

Well, that went fast! The final show of the US/Canadian tour, and matters concluded as they started, with another great performance by the band, who have certainly surpassed expectations for most of the fans attending the 2019 tour. When we said you'd have a great time, we're pleased that you've totally agreed, and then some!
The time has now come for the band, crew and equipment to pack, and head back over to the UK for a string of shows next week...

Nick Mason's SOS tour concluded its US leg last night in Washington DC at the DAR Constitution Hall, a wonderful concert hall.
Nick and his bandmates did an astounding tribute to the early days of Pink Floyd and Syd. After the opening act, the band took the stage at 8:30pm. The opening numbers, Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine, were spot on. Vegetable Man, certainly new to me, was beautiful. The Nile Song is almost grunge-like; super. Set the Controls was out of this world, no pun intended.
One Of These Days just brought the house down, better than the original. Encores Saucerful of Secrets and Point me at the Sky brought the evening to an amazing end. Nick was very active on the drums, much more so than Roger let him. The guitar work by Gary and Lee was impeccable. Guy Pratt really enjoyed himself. Dom was great on the keyboards. Nick was most gracious.
A huge thanks to Nick and his bandmates for bringing to we fans a reminder of what Syd and Pink Floyd were all about. Hearing many of the songs not played by Roger or Dave was an amazing experience. Thank you Nick Mason!!

Monday night I had the pleasure and thrill of seeing Nick and his band perform at DAR Constitution Hall in DC. They were amazing, such great energy and excitement from the band, you could really tell they were enjoying it and having fun! Nick was quick and strong on those drums!!!
Nick made several remarks thru the show that got some really great laughs from the audience. First he told the story of how Arnold Layne was banned by the BBC and he decided that we were old enough now to hear the song. Then later during the setup for Set the Controls, he commented that Roger never let him play the gong and that it was finally his turn. Guy Pratt referred to a conversation with David that he wanted to play The Nile Song with David when he was on tour for On An Island, apparently David told him he could go play in a different band if he wanted to do that, "so I did" he said!
The music was fantastic, the sound, clear. The playing of the songs were true to their original form and it was wonderful to hear so much older stuff, especially from OBC, Fearless, and Vegetable Man was incredible. Not a bad rendition of anything. The opening sound effects as has been mentioned previously were similar to TDB tour, of note I did hear some of the comms chatter from the successful failure that was NASA's Apollo 13 mission.
If you can, go see these guys!!!! Hopefully they will come around again!
