COMMENTS

When Nick Mason made comments in Italy about heading out to small venues, to play early Pink Floyd songs, few took the remarks seriously. As unlikely as it seemed, Nick was entirely truthful and in the initial announcement a set of four shows in London were announced for his new band. Due to the critical success of those shows, held in small venues in Camden and Putney, a full European tour has been announced with this date one part of this.

Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets brings together some familiar names, all great musicians: joining Nick are Gary Kemp and Lee Harris on guitars, Guy Pratt on bass, and Dom Beken on keyboards. Kemp is best known for his work with Spandau Ballet, Harris as having played guitar with The Blockheads (Ian Dury's band), Pratt needs no introduction, and Beken is principally known for his work with The Orb, and Transit Kings (with Pratt). The band will be playing early Pink Floyd songs.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd's celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums 'The Piper At The Gates of Dawn' and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'.

The regular sale of tickets started on FRIDAY, MAY 25th at 9am (UK time), via Ticketmaster.nl

Our thanks to Nick Spekkels for the ticket picture shown to the right!

WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!

Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played!

Amsterdam is always a great place for a Floyd concert, and we hear that this show proved this point. A great performance was met by a great audience reaction.

For this latest show on the tour, during his initial thanks and welcome to the audience, and an aside revealing his sadness over Brexit, Nick said "As I hope you all know, we are not the Russian Roger Waters, or the Danish David Gilmour; we are Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets! I'd just like to say that I hope that you enjoy yourselves tonight as much as we're enjoying playing for you."

Certainly that sense of fun and enjoyment comes across so clearly in the performances. Definitely a show to catch if you can!

Interestingly, for this show Arnold Layne and Vegetable Man swapped over. Will this juggling of the set list persist in later shows? We shall have to wait and see!

The band now travel to Antwerp in Belgium for Saturday's show there, the first of a set of four shows over consecutive nights, all in different countries!

We'd love to know from those attending how they felt the concert went. How was the show for you, if you were one of the fortunate ones to attend? Let us know what YOU thought!

CONCERT REVIEW by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Johan Banis

I went to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in Amsterdam.

I have to say I never was, or will be, a great fan of Syd. Neither was I much impressed by PATGOD and ASOS. I do, however, recognize the sheer brilliancy of both man and music. For me, personally, it all started with Atom Heart Mother.

So there I go, off to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in Amsterdam.

Long story short: It blew me right out of my socks. All those weird tracks from way back when were now powerful rock songs, played by a truly wonderful band, in an almost humble and modest, but quite effective setting.

And oh miracle! They played a significant part of the Atom Heart Mother suite. Tears in my eyes, shivers down my spine.

I could tell you a lot more about this performance. but I won't. What I wrote above is what it was about, for me, in the end. There is no more. Except maybe this: Syd was mentioned twice and I still stand by an earlier remark I wrote in another review: The Floyd has always been a 5-man band. But not in the days of PATGOD, I must now admit. Then there was only one, brought back to life today.

Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets - Amsterdam, September 2018 Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets - Amsterdam, September 2018

I went to the show yesterday in Carre Theater in Amsterdam. The performance was brilliant, the band really enjoyed themselves.

What I found amusing, besides the wonderful songs, are the talks from Nick or others. Similar with the report from Stockholm, Nick told story about Roger Waters never let him played the gong. Nick also paid tribute to Syd, without him none of this would happen.

Guy Pratt shared his joyful enthusiasm after playing and singing The Nile Song. He told the story that when he was touring with David Gilmour, David asked the band which song they would like to play. When Guy suggested The Nile Song, he said that David then suggested he play in another band. In the end Guy said "and now I am (playing with other band)".

Gary Kemp gave his compliment for Nick Mason. He shared a story about watching a Pink Floyd show as a kid and he only set his gaze on the drummer, because he was the only one who moved.

So, quite several side stories to remember, reminding me on reading Inside Out from the great man himself!

On Tuesday I left work early and drove to Amsterdam to go and see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets.

The weather was rainy, a good time to go to visit some music stores. In the evening I went to the Koninklijk Theater Carre. The rain was going and sun was coming in, there was a beautiful rainbow over Carre.

I was sitting in the 'Loge', in the middle of Carre right beside the mixer. The stage was nice with the drum kit beautifully lit and on the wall behind a very big version of the nice Saucerful of Secrets tour logo.

Nick and the band were playing with enthusiasm and fun. The sound was loud but good, a solid sound. The show has many highlights. Nick was speaking to the audience a couple of times, "we are not the Russian Roger Waters or the Danish David Gilmour......no....we are Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets" ...laughing...

I did like the voice and singing of Gary Kemp and the polyphonic singing in some tracks. A great concert with very nice performances of the early Floyd songs; I'm lucky to see a second concert in a couple of days going to Dusseldorf - Germany.

Yesterday was a great night in the Carre theater in Amsterdam. I read the Stockholm review and have nothing to add to that, so not gonna write a review of Amsterdam repeating similar words ;-)

But I must say I think it was awesome! loved the show, the atmosphere, the venue, the playlist and especially the vibe on stage, the guys really seemed to enjoy themselves.
