COMMENTS

David's 2016 tour of Europe arrives in a most unexpected, and unusual, venue - as you'll see from the picture of the location.

The Saline Royale (Royal Saltworks) is a historical building, situated around 35km away from Besançon, the birthplace of French writer Victor Hugo. Constructed in 1775, the site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site programme.

Tickets for this concert went on sale on Friday, February 5th, at 10am CET. Tickets are restricted to 4 per person. You can order tickets through GDP.fr, or via the ticket hotline which is +33 892 392 192 (France only) or +33 149 975 191 (International).

WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!

Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played!

The Royal Saltworks is a very unusual venue for a concert, and we hear that David Gilmour and his band made it a musically memorable experience, as well as a visually memorable experience.

Interestingly, the set has, for the first time in a number of shows, had a bit of a shuffle, and the show saw a return of Us And Them to proceedings.

We'd love to know in more detail how the concert went. Did you go? Let us know what YOU thought!

CONCERT REVIEW and PICTURES by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Nick Spekkels

This old Salt factory is quite an interesting location for a concert, but as with all David's concerts, a beautiful setting again.

After the structured organisation I witnessed in Stuttgart this was a great example of an unstructured organisation, 50-meter queues if you wanted to eat something and at around 20:30hrs they even ran out of food/drink coupons. We were there very early so had a nice spot about 15 meters from the stage, but we noticed that the 20,000 tickets (?) were too many for this venue and soon people were pushing and some at the back had bad views.

The concert was again a great performance, but a difference this day was that Louise Clare Marshall (middle backing vocalist) was not present, unfortunately. For that reason they replaced Great Gig in the Sky with Us and Them. (Great Gig is superb during this tour, so if you see only one concert, better to have Great Gig, but if you see five concerts, it is nice to have Us and Them in a setlist for one concert as well).

Tonight David was not very talkative, as a matter of fact he only spoke after the first set informing us that he would be back in 20 minutes and at the end with the usual introduction of the band.

My friend and I were staying on a camp site about 15kms from the venue and rented bikes to go to the concert, which turned out to be a good choice. After the concert there was a traffic jam like I'd never seen before, the small village of Senans with only 1,500 citizens is just not prepared for 20,000 people and because there was no public transport almost everyone came by car and only three small roads went out of Senans. Not sure when the last people drove out, but when we left on the bikes we passed long rows of cars standing still trying to get out. All in all again a great concert, beautiful scenery, lousy organisation but a superb atmosphere at the front.

YOUR HELP NEEDED! We want to cover David's concerts the best we can, to share the experience with everyone, especially those who won't be able to attend the shows. We'd love to see ANY pictures, tickets scans, reviews, newspaper reports, and anything else you come across for this show - we look forward to hearing from you!
