Hitting selected UK stores last week was "Pink Floyd: The Ultimate Music Guide", a new, expanded - or rather, "deluxe remastered edition" - of a special from the UK's Uncut Magazine which they originally published in June 2011. They are now labelling this as the first in a set of 'bookazines': more of a large format, perfect bound book than magazine. As with the previous edition, this is a 148 page special devoted to Pink Floyd's recorded output over the years, and this edition features no advertising to bulk out its pages, enabling them to bring the story up to date within the same page count as before. The magazine includes classic interviews with all of the band members from the archives of Melody Maker and the New Musical Express (part of the same publishers as Uncut). There are also new, full reviews of every album complete with background to each record, and what was occurring in the band's lives at the time. These all come with some great pictures of the band live, and in the studio, from 1966 onwards. Whilst the first edition ended around the time of David Gilmour guesting at Roger's Wall concert held at London's O2 Arena, this new version includes Uncut's coverage of The Endless River - an extensive article and interview. A fascinating insight into the background and creation of the album, and if you didn't get the normal monthly magazine which included this, at the time, this provides the perfect opportunity to get hold of it. The rest of the magazine is well designed too, and fascinating - well worth snapping up particularly if you don't have some/all of the material within. You can purchase the magazine in selected UK stores now, and you can order it online through this direct link. |
