Pink Floyd - The Endless River 2014 2LP vinyl editionTwo bits of news relating to Pink Floyd's new album, The Endless River, this morning. First, the music streaming service Spotify reports that the track "Allons-y (1)" from the album has become "the most viral song on Spotify worldwide."

"The Endless River" was streamed over 12 million times in its first week of release according to Spotify. Since joining the streaming service just over a year ago, the band's music has been added to over 3 million playlists. The largest demographic for the band appears to be the 18-22 year old users of the service. Spotify: "With over 60 percent of its audience under 35, its strongest listening among 18-22 year olds, and 80 percent of its playlisters under the age of 34. Pink Floyd appears to be reaching a really young crowd through Spotify, especially for a band founded nearly 50 years ago."

It is also reported this morning that first week UK sales on vinyl of The Endless River (which we review in detail here) were the highest of any LP released since 1997, making it the fastest-selling vinyl album this century, according to official UK Charts data.

The BPI, the trade body which represents the UK's record labels, has just announced that annual sales of vinyl albums have exceeded the 1m mark for the first time since the Britpop era of the 1990s, according to Official Charts data released today. The Endless River is at Number 2 in the current Official Vinyl Chart behind the David Bowie 'Best Of', Nothing Has Changed.
