WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!

Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played, and what happened as the night unfolded!

Night fourteen of the tour, and the show that exactly marks the mid-point of the tour. From our friend Jochen's review below, sounds like Roger wasn't necessarily enjoying the show, or maybe was feeling a little under the weather... Just thirteen performances left before the tour wraps up next month. Next stop, though, is Vienna, in Austria. If you went to this show in Poland, please let us know what you thought of the event, and if anything interesting or different happened if you've been to previous shows and can compare.

CONCERT REVIEW by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Jochen Klug

I am really curious to know what RW himself thought of this show. Compared to the other three I have seen, he appeared tired, grumpy and uninspired throughout most of the show. He tried to get the audience going but with not much luck. I have heard complaints of the Swedish audience (I am Swedish myself) but this audience seemed to be even more hard to flirt with. RW sang with less power and intensity, he wavered on notes in "Cruel World" among others and shrugged his shoulders on several occasions. No one in the crowd answered on "Is there anybody out there" and his attempt to get people waving was not very successful. Perhaps it is a question of not many Polish people being that good in English? When the "Intermission" sign came up, it took a while before people started to get up from their seats. RW, on the other hand, tried his best in speaking Polish and ended it with "How do you speak this language every day?"

This might have been due to the fact that the sound in the National Stadium was quite bad. It echoed and bounced all over the place which clearly had made the mixing difficult. The drums were pounding in my chest, drowning other sounds, and during e.g. "Empty Spaces" the vocals could barely be heard. The feedback on "Nobody Home" clearly bothered him, no doubt about that.

On the other hand, after "Outside The Wall", RW seemed completely exhausted. He bent over and rested on his knees after a pretty bad performance on the trumpet. Perhaps he was not quite well this evening and that showed through in his performance. In that case, kudos for not cancelling, and nice to see that he is actually human after all...

The show started 30 minutes late and I think that was due to the fact that the Polish audience was late. The day before the show, people who had pre-sale tickets were informed that the tickets, in order to prevent big queueing, could be picked up one day earlier than usual so I guess they anticipated this behaviour of late arrival. I have worked in Poland for 14 months and can confirm that late arrival is not unusual nor surprising in different environments. E.g. after the intermission people came trotting in and looking for their seats well after "Hey You".

Like I said, it would be interesting to hear what RW liked this show. The papers afterwards were very positive and from what I saw/heard, the sound was not mentioned at all, neither was RW's apparent lack of interest. Perhaps it was only me, having seen the show before, that wore a pair of glasses a bit too critical.
