COMMENTS

Roger's tour of The Wall arrives at a University campus, and the rather small looking stadium on site. It's a venue which appears to be a little basic but could prove to be a very interesting location for this show...

The RogerWaters.com presales have taken place, with advance tickets available to those who had registered their interest in particular cities. General sale tickets have gone on sale through Biletix.com and other official agents (exact dates and outlets can be found via Roger's website). The public sale will also see a limited number of VIP packages made available for each show on the tour. Our thanks to Okan for sending in the ticket scan of the VIP ticket, which you can see to the right (click the thumbnail). The date of the concert was moved from August 3rd, to August 4th.

Night seven of the tour, and the production arrives in the Turkish city of Istanbul. As part of the show, some Turkish people were especially included in the projections, as you will see below. Three days rest now before Prague, in the Czech Republic, gets the smaller, indoor version of the show.

Below are some fresh pictures and videos of The Wall Istanbul concert and one statement about one of Waters' inspirations [about music and his entire career] before the concert.

On August 4, 2013, in an interview with a Turkish newspaper, Hurriyet, Roger Waters stated that "I was about 15. In the middle of the night with friends, we were listening to jazz. It was Georgia on My Mind - Ray Charles's version. Then I thought 'One day, if I make someone feel only one twentieths of what I am feeling now, it will be quite enough for me'." During the concert, Roger made a statement in Turkish (this video shot by Erdal Mahir Curan):

In Turkish:
Hosgeldiniz. Burada olmaktan cok mutluyum (while he continues his statement, audience chanting background as "Her Yer Taksim, Her Yer Direnis" & "Everywhere is Taksim, Everywhere is Resistance"). Buradaki cocuklar icin bir alkis lutfen. (Chanting continues). [He says something more in Turkish but it was quite hard to recognize what he said] ... ve adalet iÃ§in ... Jean Charles de Menezes adamak istiyorum ve dunyadaki devlet teroru kurbanlarina. (Chanting continues). Sizi hep hatirlayacagiz. [And he points out the victims' pictures of the Taksim Gezi Park protests on 'The Wall']. (Chanting continues). [He starts to sing 'Mother'].

In English:
Welcome. I am very happy to be here. Applause please for these great children here. I dedicate [this song] to Jean Charles de Menezes, to [unrecognized names said in Turkish but quite possibly he mentioned the names on the wall], to justice and to the victims of state terror. We will always remember you. [Then he points out the pictures].

Roger Waters not only granted our wish… far beyond our wish he dedicated the concert and all songs to the 5 young guys who lost their life at the gezi protests during his performance in Istanbul last night. Everybody in Turkey not only audience …- many people shared their thanks, feelings and tears via social media - were really really happy because of this gesture. It means so much for us….Because there is so much pressure and pain ongoing nowadays in Turkey and many people had lost their hopes especially hence young people dying for more rights and democracy… But the concert and that the victims were honoured, the gesture of Roger Waters gave them/us strength again… as many people stated in social media… Also the whole Turkish classical media, major newspapers covered the story… But for me personally the best thing was that the families of the 5 guys who were remembered - especially the one who was a Pink Floyd Fan - appreciated it and shared their thanks and feelings also via social media…

In details the pictures of 5 guys which were killed during the protests were displayed to the “wall” and then Roger spoke in Turkish saying: That he want applause for this brave guys… That he wanted to give this concert in Turkey/Istanbul for demanding justice; democracy and therefore he is dedicating the concert and all songs to all “victims of government terror" of the world.
