Jeff BeckIn the current issue of Mojo Magazine (in UK stores now), Jeff Beck makes some very interesting comments as part of an article on the great guitarist.

First, he reveals how he was very close to being asked to join Pink Floyd as Syd Barrett was about to leave. Nick Mason talks - briefly - about this in his own book, "Inside Out", noting that "[Beck] would have been an interesting (and spectacular) experiment. I don't think any of us would have had the courage to make the phone call at the time".

Beck doesn't go into much detail other than to say he heard about the band's interest via his "...close association with Dave Gilmour". Equally as interesting are his comments on a potential lyricist to write with him, stating that he could only think of one person who could do the job. "Roger Waters would be marvellous," he said, and went on to say that until the day that happens we won't hear Jeff singing again! Clearly a fan.

Beck has also been talking to our friend Laurent Rieppi from Classic 21, the Classic Rock radio station of the RTBF. Laurent interviewed Beck a few weeks ago about the release of his new live album, and asked him the question about his potential work with Pink Floyd. You can hear what he had to say about the subject by clicking here...

Our thanks to Matt Woodcock for the Mojo information, and to Laurent for kindly sharing the interview excerpt.
