Our many Japanese readers will be delighted to know that, for the first time, they will be able to see the legendary surfing film, Crystal Voyager, in their country. The film, which famously features a long, atmospheric sequence set to Pink Floyd's Echoes, has never been screened in the country.

The film features American surfer-cameraman George Greenhough riding the waves from California to Byron Bay, using ground-breaking photography to take us inside the tube on his flexible, high-tech 'spoon' kneeboard.

This seventy five minutes film is a document of his efforts to reach normally inaccessible surfing areas, building his boards, preparing special cameras to film it, and the boat to get there!

The Echoes segment takes up the final twenty three minutes of the film, and is a great combination of sound and vision - indeed, some of this footage was used by the band themselves during the live shows, on the circular screen!

The film will be screened in cinemas from December 4th, for a limited run. Click here for the official Japanese site promoting the movie.

Shown to the right are both sides of the promo flyer for the film, which states: "As for Pink Floyd, there is an improbable legend nowadays, which the band member who watched the film in a London studio is overwhelmed, and they consented under the condition that they inherit one of the 35mm prints from the movie producer."
