Back to Canada for Roger and the band, and a great reception from the Vancouver crowd. Cameras aplenty, including at least one on a boom arm, fueled the persistent rumours of a tour DVD, but the official word is that the footage is purely intended for Roger's private archives.

rw_review_vancouver_province_review_-_michael_speke The band remain in Canada for three more shows (before returning next month for one final show in the country) and in total, there are just ten full concerts left on this current tour.

To see what the local press thought of it, visit the Vancouver Sun website. (Thanks, David!) To see what they put in their printed edition, check out the scan to the left that Michael Speke kindly sent us of a review from the Calgary Sun.

CONCERT REVIEW - by BD contributer, Ross Wylie

Caught the Show at GM place in Vancouver last night and what an amazing show it was.

From the opening note of In The Flesh to the last cord of Comfortably Numb it was simply electrifying. The highlight of the show for me was when after a truly mesmerizing performance the band came back out for the encore after five minutes of deafeningly thunderous applause from the approximately 18,000 in attendance who then proceeded to stand and sing along for the rest of the show.

I went to see Roger Waters a brilliant artist in his own right. I came away knowing I had experienced the closest thing to Pink Floyd that there presently is. A memory to be cherished...

I attended the Vancouver concert on June 21st and it would mark the first time I would see Roger Waters live. Despite reading many other concert reviews from other shows on the tour, nothing could have prepared me for the spectacle witnessed that night.

The show was absolutely fantastic, Roger and his band are in top form, a well oiled machine. The entire concert was a blend of both rock and roll theatrics and musical professionalism, I was impressed to say they least.

Right from the opening notes of "In the Flesh" I knew I, along with 18,000 others were in for something great. I've attended many concerts, but have never seen the emotional response to songs quite like that. There was a definite sense of both awe and nostalgia coming from the crowd.

Songs like "Leaving Beirut" were received well by the crowd and I was surprised at how many fans were proclaiming "Set the Controls to the Heart of the Sun" as one of the show highlights. What impressed me the most was the performance of "Sheep". I've always liked the song, But hearing the power of it live was an incredible experience, the "Animals" album impresses me more and more by the day.

In the end it was one of the best single experiences of my life, so thanks to Roger and his band for that. For anyone still wondering if they should attend one of the final shows, I would say get a ticket at whatever the cost, it will be worth it, trust me.

Saw the Vancouver concert last night. I was up in the balcony stage right...great view, though the sound mix was a little hazy at times due to everyone playing louder than everyone else. The band did appear to be having a good time -- I think Rog enjoys playing Canada.

As always with a Canadian crowd, any anti-American (or, more correctly, anti-US Government) rhetoric went down well. This was particularly evident on "Leaving Beirut".

Personal favourites for me:
Set the Controls
Wish you were Here
Fletcher Memorial Home
Perfect Sense
Sheep (loved the dual guitars)
Us and Them

They appeared to be filming the entire show -- there were at least two cameras, one on a long boom and another on a track in front of the stage.

CONCERT REVIEW - by BD contributer, Tina Lalonde

I went to the Roger Waters concert At GM place last night. I am and have been a Pink Floyd mega fan since I was 13 and have never been able to see them. Last night meant a lot to me and I sure was not disappointed. Unbelievable. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Thank You Roger Waters. You rock!!!

CONCERT REVIEW - by BD contributer, Dan Simmons

This was the 7th time I have seen Roger solo and the first since 2000 and I have to admit, of all his tours, this was the greatest showing of intensity, passion, electricity and excitement ever. British Columbia had not seen Roger in 20 years and as with most great music, people are starved for classics and quality. They were not disappointed. The sell-out crowd at GM Place was the loudest I have ever witnessed and their enthusiasm was only exceeded by the consumption of beverages (beer) and world famous BC Bud. The one problems with serving beer at a venue such as this is that there was a steady stream of patrons filing either up to refurbish or empty their bladders at sometimes awkward moments.

I won't get into detail about the incredible set list or stage set-up only to repeat what others have said, that it was the most visual, technological masterpiece ever witnessed in a concert setting. The graphics were inspirational and mesmerizing and the comments around me from first time Roger attendees were that of utter amazement. They don't make 'em like Roger any more and only he can bring humanity and rock and roll into such a contemporary timeless genre.

I have read with disappointment of those who have been critical of the political spectrum of the show and for the life of me I can't understand why. It doesn't matter whether you are for or against this or that, the matter is that there needs to be dialog and understanding for both points of view. If you know Roger Waters, what else would you expect? The fact that the world is so off kilter now and so very need of heart, I found it truly inspiring that he has the courage to speak up against this insanity. In Canada, these messages were not greeted by any jeers but by a resounding thunder of ovation and adulation. Thank God, there are a few purveyors of truth not afraid to speak their mind. Any fan who "gets" what Roger is about should appreciate it, the others who are so put off can all go f....k themselves for all I care, I lived in the States for 40 years and I know all sides of the issue so you all have a right to your opinion and so does Roger Waters.

A few songs layered in other reviews were so compelling and so electric, mere words cannot do them justice. I had not heard "Sheep" live in 30 years and the stage pyrotechnics, flying pig and visuals brought the crowd to a breaking point excitement. People were actually shaking their heads in disbelief for a few minutes during the start of the intermission trying to comprehend what they just witnessed. The Fletcher Memorial Home was one for me that moved me beyond the mere power of the show but to a place of reflection and nostalgia. For us veterans of Pink Floyd and Roger the whole show was astounding and I cannot imagine what the first half felt like for a first time attendee.

Dark Side was incredible and though is probably what sold many of the tickets, it was just another outstanding piece of the pie we all devoured.

My head is still buzzing from the electricity and karma and if can think of any more comments, I'll post them.
