Marek "Mick" Kluczynski Print E-mail

Marek "Mick" KluczynskiIt's with much sadness that we bring you the news that Marek (better known as Mick) Kluczynski passed away on Friday, February 6th 2009, after a short illness. He was 59. Mick was a key member of the Pink Floyd touring crew from 1972 and highly valued by the band. After many years as the production director of The BRIT Awards, Mick was looking forward to retiring after this year's BRITs.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on March 30th, 1949, Mick had worked with a number of Scottish bands since 1965, one of whom received an offer to record in London in 1971 as Cliff Bennett's backing band. Kluczynski accompanied them but the whole deal soon fell to pieces. One of the band members, Chris Adamson, survived by working as a Pink Floyd roadie and arranged for Kluczynski to also join their small team as part of the "Quad Squad".

Bryan Morrison Print E-mail

Bryan Morrison Our thoughts are with the friends and family of early Pink Floyd manager, Bryan Morrison, who sadly passed away on Saturday, September 27th, two years after falling into a coma following a polo accident at The Royal Berkshire Polo Club of which he was a founder. He was 66.

He formed the Bryan Morrison Agency, a management and booking agency, who looked after Floyd (amongst others) in their early days, taking over the management of the band from Blackhill Enterprises in 1968. The late Steve O'Rourke and Tony Howard were also part of the team.

Norman "Hurricane" Smith Print E-mail

norman smith We are very sorry to report that the legendary producer, and later recording artist in his own right, Norman "Hurricane" Smith, passed away on Monday evening (March 3rd, 2008) aged 85.

Born on February 22nd 1923, he was the engineer on all of the recordings by the Beatles up until 1965 when EMI promoted him from engineer to producer. The last Beatles album he recorded was Rubber Soul, and Smith engineered the sound for approximately 180 Beatles songs in total.

He then took on the recording and production of Pink Floyd's Piper At The Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, and Ummagumma and the Floyd's other early recordings. It was reported that during the sessions for the song "Remember a Day", Nick Mason became agitated that he could not come up with the right drum part for the song. Smith, however, knew what he wanted with the drums, so he played the part himself.

Nick Griffiths Print E-mail

nick_griffithsNick Griffiths, Pink Floyd engineer and producer of Roger Waters’ solo albums, died on March 20, 2005, aged 53, following complications after a transplant operation.

Griffiths was an inspirational record producer who was responsible for recording the Islington school kids for one of the iconic moments of rock music, the children’s chorus from the Pink Floyd’s hit single, Another Brick In The Wall Part II. Roger Waters on receiving the tape in Los Angeles, commented “...hearing all those kids singing for the first time; I knew immediately this was the mother-lode. It felt like pure gold.” Nick later went on to produce and record Roger Waters’ “The Wall Live In Berlin” TV concert, marking the reunification of Germany.

Darrell Ives Print E-mail

darrell ivesIt is with sadness that we report the passing of Darrell Ives on February 16th 2007, in Hong Kong. Darrell was in the midst of working as Roger Waters' Head of Security, and assistant, on his tour, and had worked with Roger for some years.

A former semi-professional American Footballer, Darrell set up his own security company twenty years ago, and subsequently provided his assistance to such luminaries as golfer Tiger Woods, wrestler Hulk Hogan, The Who, U2, Depeche Mode, legendary boxer Muhammed Ali, and even former presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.

However, more recently he concentrated his spare time on helping African children through the Edwards Foundation, raising funds through auctions and collections. More details on his life and work can be read through this link at the Romeo Observer's website.
