Keen cricketer Eric Clapton has arranged a charity cricket match which will take place on Sunday, June 8th in Surrey, England. Amongst the provisional teams list are friends of his including Roger Waters (taking part just two days after he wraps the Dark Side Of The Moon tour in St Petersburg), Bill Wyman, Mike Rutherford, Surrey and England players Mark Butcher and Mark Ramprakash, former England players Phil Tuffnell, Jack Russell and Alan Lamb, former captain of the Indian Cricket Team Mohammed Azharuddin and fast bowler and former Captain of the Pakistan team Wasim Akram.

The match aims to raise significant funds for the Longacre Jubilee Appeal, CHASE Children’s Hospice Guildford, Crossroads Centre (the rehabilitation centre in Antigua founded by Eric) and The English Schools Cricket Association.

The match is billed as Eric Clapton’s XI versus The Bunburys Charity Cricket Match. Eric is a Longacre parent and was a founding member of The Bunburys, the country’s best known team of touring celebrities and former cricket professionals whose first match was played in Ripley, Surrey. More than 20 years later The Bunburys are still playing, raising funds for worthwhile causes and entertaining the fans.

This unique event will take place at 2:30pm on Sunday June 8th at Cranleigh School, in Cranleigh, Surrey, and tickets are now on sale. The quaintly titled Cream Tea and Cricket Tickets are priced at £12.50 for adults, and £2.50 for children under 12 years old. Adults will receive a traditional cream tea during the interval, and children get a snack.

Please note: all tickets must be purchased in advance by visiting www.longacre.surrey.sch.uk and printing off the ticket application form, which must then be returned with a cheque and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The closing date for receipt of applications is Monday 2nd June. Bear in mind that this isn't a massive event, so there won't be a huge number of tickets available, and indeed, the school told us today that they are selling fast.

For cricket fans, the match will be an interesting variation on the norm, seeing all the famous faces from other professional walks of life. For those who are yet to get an appreciation of the sport, this might be the ideal opportunity, whilst supporting some good causes!
