Greenpeace logoMuch-respected musician and producer Nick Laird-Clowes, who has been a long-term collaborator (and in some cases, co-writer) with David Gilmour. He's been talking recently on social networking sites about the music he has just completed for a Greenpeace documentary (directed by Nick Broomfield) about The Kingsnorth Six.

It includes a new song, 'Mayday' ("a meditation on street protest - circa '09") which Nick notes includes David Gilmour on backing vocals and guitar, and the "pounding" bass of Guy Pratt.

UPDATE, May 22nd: The song, which was recorded over the May bank holiday weekend, was the culmination of four weeks of Nick's work. The documentary will appear on the Greenpeace site from May 31st and launched in conjunction with The Observer/Guardian films in the Sunday newspaper of that day. The song itself will be available as a free download with details in the newspaper that day.
