COMMENTS

Due to the critical success of the four initial shows in May 2018, held in tiny venues in London's Camden and Putney, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets announced a full European tour for September last year. The expanded shows for the full tour were even more highly acclaimed, and it came as no surprise when further dates for 2019 were announced!

Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets brings together some familiar names, all great musicians: joining Nick are Gary Kemp and Lee Harris on guitars, Guy Pratt on bass, and Dom Beken on keyboards. Kemp is best known for his work with Spandau Ballet, Harris as having played guitar with The Blockheads (Ian Dury's band), Pratt needs no introduction, and Beken is principally known for his work with The Orb, and Transit Kings (with Pratt). The band will be playing early Pink Floyd songs.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd's celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums 'The Piper At The Gates of Dawn' and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'.

The regular sale of tickets started on DECEMBER 20th, via Eventim.de.

WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD!

Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played!

It has felt a long time coming (eagerness to hear the band in action doesn't abate) but now it is here - the start of the Saucerful Of Secrets Summer tour of Europe. They're playing fifteen shows in twenty-five days, and amongst the venues are some beautiful, historic places, some dating from ancient Roman times.

What better way to start this principally open-air jaunt with a show under the stars in Ulm, Germany? The weather was thankfully kind for this inaugural concert, with a beautiful day followed by a lovely warm evening. Early reports are that the band were on fine form, with no rustiness due to the break in performance since their last shows, two months ago.

One thing that seemed to take the band by surprise was summed up neatly by Gary Kemp, after Green Is The Colour. "It's been amazing to watch the two storks up there while we've been on stage, enjoying our show!" The storks were then mentioned in Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, with Guy Pratt singing "...Under the eaves, the STORKS were resting..."

We'd love to know from those attending how they felt the concert went. How was the show for you, if you were one of the fortunate ones to attend? Let us know what YOU thought!

CONCERT REVIEW by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Vincent van Rens

On the 3th of July early in the morning I drove from the Netherlands away to start my summer holiday and I started it really well by visiting Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in Ulm - Wiblingen at the Kloster Wiblingen.

Not far before Ulm I visited Blaubeuren, a very nice place to spend some time after a lucky fast drive. Then up to Kloster Wiblingen. I was surprised that I could walk into the concert place and take some pictures in front and behind the podium.

The Kloster area was still open to visit and after a while I saw some band members backstage. At around 16:30 the band members were onstage, soundcheck time. And still we could stay in the stage area. The band did the soundcheck and when making photos or film we were warned that that was not allowed, and when snapped a second time we would be removed from the area. Still, watching and listening was allowed, great!

After the, I think 20 minutes, soundcheck I got to eat something to come back in the evening. I met Werner, fan and webmaster from a great Floyd website in German language, pulse-and-spirit.com and some other fans and pulse and spirit visitors.

Lee Harris and Dom Beken were in the audience walking around and I wish them a nice ongoing tour. I was amazing that they could walk around so free and easy.

James Walsh was playing before the Saucers. Then the first open air performance from the Saucers started. Great to hear them again since the Roundhouse concerts. The band is in superb form now. The weather was very good and the location very nice.

There were no setlist changes. A great performance again. At the intro of One Of These Days Guy had some trouble with the effect pedals to get the good sound. A technician was coming but the effect was still coming in...

It was a great concert to start my holiday.

The next days I went climbing in the Austrian Alps and then spent a long week to Bergamo in the north of Italy, not far from Brescia to visit another Saucers open air concert.

YOUR HELP NEEDED! We want to cover Nick's concerts the best we can, to share the experience with everyone, especially those who won't be able to attend the shows. We'd love to see ANY pictures, tickets scans, reviews, newspaper reports, and anything else you come across for this show - we look forward to hearing from you!
