Night thirty-two of the tour, and the show arrives for the first of three nights at the Wells Fargo Center (known, at the time tickets went on sale, as the Wachovia Center).

The Philadelphia Enquirer was at the show, and confirmed that "Waters' 'Wall' stands test of time'. They note that "As a musical performance, The Wall live is a flawless recreation of the album, with Waters and his crack 12-piece backing band sounding tight as a tourniquet and delivering note-perfect fidelity, down to the smallest sonic detail. As spectacle, it is peerless in this concert season, or any in recent memory for that matter. The sheer scale of the production - the fighter plane that crashes into the stage during "In The Flesh", the towering menace of the puppetry during "Mother" and "Another Brick In The Wall," the cinematic sweep of the animations (most notably the ominous marching hammers and the copulating flowers), and the sheer enormity of the the wall itself - matches the outsized thematic scope of the piece, which is to say everything that's been going on in the world during the first bloody, awful decade of the 21st century.

"Everyone should see it once before they die."

They have also posted a 16-shot photo gallery here.

CONCERT REVIEW, VIDEO and PICTURE by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Simon Wimpenny

I remember from the Dark Side tour that the shows in Philly always attract a great crowd and tonight was no different. Our seats were 14th row on the aisle in the front section of the floor, Phil and Laila were behind us in row 16, Greg was a touch further back off to the side but still on the floor and our friends Jim and Chrissy were front row right, right in front of Jon and Harry.

As Kami and I were sat waiting for the show we could see Jim on the front row and he was right where Roger takes off his armband after Waiting For The Worms. Kami suggested we let Jim know so we went down to see him and explained where to be and at what time and to be on his guard to try grab the armband when Roger throws it into the crowd.

As soon as the show started I could tell the crowd were gonna be great! They were all standing the second Roger hit the stage and remained stood after In The Flesh and throughout the whole first half.

Roger was really talkative to the crowd tonight, especially before Mother, asking if the Electric Factory venue was still open and letting people know he had heard about The Spectrum closing down. He commented on how he always knew that Philly was always a music town and how the crowd always gave them a great welcome.

Roger Waters - Philadelphia, October 8th, 2010[As you'll see by clicking the thumbnail to the right] Roger has changed the images during Comfy Numb, well not changed them but has added some images to what used to be the pain white screen, I think they look fantastic and the images change as the show goes along. It's like bricks that all move around and blend into each other as the show goes along! He's also changed a few images in Mother and Another Brick which I'll mention in the review for the second show in a day or so.

I would say the show was probably in the top three of the tour so far for definite. After the show we headed down to congratulate Jim on getting the armband, him and Chrissy really enjoyed the show and were so excited to have seen it from the front row and to have caught the armband!

CONCERT REVIEW by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Stephen Cerone

As someone who counts The Wall as his favorite album, I was thrilled earlier this year when the rumors came true and we found out that Roger would be touring this show. I attended the November 8 concert and I guess it's a cliché to say a show was awesome, but this one truly was. The visuals were phenomenal, the Wall itself impressive, the sound/vocals fantastic...it was outstanding. I went with two friends and all three of us took our 15-year old sons. It was truly special to share this concert with them. My son also counts The Wall as his favorite album and it's something we'll never forget.

I feel like I had a smile on my face the whole time I was in the Wells Fargo Center. I can't possibly mention all the highlights, but some I can remember a week later include:

  • Walking in and seeing the first parts of the wall already built at the sides of the stage
  • The opening notes of In The Flesh? and the pyrotechnics
  • The plane crashing down into the Wall
  • The teacher puppet
  • Roger playing along with “himself” on Mother and talking to the crowd before that song
  • The flowers animation along with updated graphics
  • The music and graphics on The Last Few Bricks
  • The closing of the Wall at the end of Goodbye Cruel World
  • Hey You with the whole band behind the completed Wall
  • Roger in the hotel room for Nobody Home
  • Comfortably Numb and the animation during the guitar solo
  • The graphics during Run Like Hell (it really looked like vehicles were going by behind the Wall)
  • The Trial
  • The Wall crashing down

At one point, somewhat early on, there was a visual of something (a Frightened One?) running at high speed toward the audience, scaring everyone! That was unexpected.

The whole thing was just a fantastic experience. Is it Pink Floyd? Of course not. Richard (RIP), Nick, and, especially, David are certainly missed. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Roger has put on a concert experience that is, well, awesome. He does a great job as do the musicians, vocalists, and all the behind-the-scenes people. My only beef is that from where we sat in the upper section, the circular screen and the musicians at the top of the Wall in Comfortably Numb were partially blocked by equipment. But I don't think there was any way around that.

I really hope a DVD is released because this is a concert I'd love to re-live again and again. And maybe the rumors that a DVD of the original Wall shows will come true, too? Hey, as I said, it's my favorite album!

Other reviews, comments and pictures most welcome...

YOUR HELP NEEDED! We want to cover Roger's concerts the best we can, to share the experience with everyone, especially those who won't be able to attend the shows. We'd love to see ANY pictures, tickets scans, reviews, newspaper reports, and anything else you come across for this show - we look forward to hearing from you!
