Many parts of the media worldwide are now reporting that Pink Floyd are in the process of suing EMI, after claims that the company has miscalculated royalty payments. The Observer newspaper in the UK broke the story on Sunday, and noted that the band have been one of EMI's most lucrative signings, with only The Beatles outselling them.

EMI was taken over in 2007 by Terra Firma, and since then some major acts have left the label, most notably Radiohead, Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones. The Observer say that industry insiders think the legal action is likely to have flared up amid routine three-yearly negotiations over royalty payments.

Both EMI and Pink Floyd have declined to comment. Our thanks to all those who have written in about this story.
