WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD! Do not read on if you don't want surprises to be spoilt, regarding what the band played! And so back south rolled the Roger Waters tour, heading for the Palau Sant Jordi. As you'll see from the pictures below, the venue was an ideal setting for the show, as it enabled the lighting and effects to be shown off to great effect. No changes reported to the set, or any problems or glitches... just another great show from a band who are working together sublimely. Tomorrow night sees the show head over to Italy for the show there, before turning north again...

This was our fourth time of seeing the show, (3 times last year) and we can honestly say it was the best. There are new images and effects... the prism is amazing although taking some of the attention of the audience away from Dave K who did a fantastic job. He's just getting better and better. Roger looked really relaxed and happy to be there. in fact, so did the whole band. Great singing by the girls. Great solo by Andy F-L in Leaving Beirut. Great audience participation in Another Brick. The audience was really receptive and I think that was really appreciated by Roger and the rest of the band. Next stop for us, Arnhem... can't wait!! CONCERT REVIEW and pictures - by BD contributer, Jesús María Valera Amazing show! With British punctuality, the concert started at 21.30 and "In the Flesh" began to sound with fireworks. Hammers walking on a really big and high definition screen. I couldn't believed that I was watching Roger Waters in front of me. Even though I was 22 y.o., I'm a very big PF fan since 7 or 8 years ago, and the start of the show made me cry because of the excitement. On the next two hours and a half, the 18.500 persons in Palau Saint Jordi vibrated with the crystal clear and quadraphonic sound. Even the songs of Final Cut and the solitary career of Waters were incredible, with a dedicated crowd listening carefully. The song of the night was Sheep. I knew that the flying pig was going to turn up because I read this web every day, but the audience was really surprised. The quadraphonic sound was very clear throughout the song. With a "long" interval of fifteen minutes and a impatient audience waiting for the second half of the show, a moon was growing on the screen throughout the break. Suddenly, a heartbeat starts to sound and lights turns off. The people clap and shout.
Breathe, breathe in the air. 45 minutes enjoying live one of the
best works in the music's history. Great percussion on "Time", a
splendid voice on a great "Great gig in the sky", a perfect "Us and
Them", and a really intense final stage with "Any Colour you Like-Brain
Damage-Eclipse". People laughing, singing, crying. Presentation of the band by Roger Waters, who let the crowd to sing alone the second half of Another Brick in the Wall Pt.2. Vera, Bring the Boys Back Home, and the great end for a great concert, Comfortably Numb. I didn't want the end of the song arrives!
But the time has come to say goodbye. Thanks to Roger, thanks to the
whole band, thanks to the promotors for bring Waters to Spain and thank
you all for read this review, which I tried to write not very bad
because of my poor English [You did a great job! Matt] CONCERT PICTURES - courtesy of Antoni Arribas
CONCERT REVIEW - by BD contributer, David Benjamin Ruiz Hall The week before...(April 13-20th) One week to go now, one week to see whether the never passing months since November were worth it. Many say Pink died in 83 after Final Cut, also, many think that the grave was dug somewhere between 80-81, maybe even before, maybe the day they started recording The Wall, maybe then, I was too young to know, too young to enjoy their last tour together, but now, it’s time, it’s time…. Everything checked, the concert ticket- having kept it as tight as a safe-, the train ticket, the hotel, hope everything works well…. For the last two weeks all that I’ve heard at home or otherwise has been Roger’s era Pink -more than usual, but I am still proud of my Pulse, A momentary Lapse, Delicate Sound…Division Bell….even On an Island…- I was looking at the concert ticket the other day, thinking whether I had taken the right seat (mid level, mid centre, should the stage be at nine o’clock, I will be at three sharp), I was wondering when I bought it if I would be able to hear it, to see it, enjoy it the most, hope I do, just one week to go… One day to go, chills all over the place, I dozed off yesterday with A Flickering Flame album…, by this time tomorrow, I’ll be at the stadium. The concert…(April 21st, 21.30pm) The concert is going to be held at the St. Jordi Covered Stadium (Arena), built for the 1992 Olympics held in Barcelona, an emblematic building built at the same time the Montjuic Stadium and the Picornell Olympic swimming pools. The crowd line-up is amazing, people form Toledo, Palma de Mallorca, Cordoba, Granada, Valencia, Madrid, all of Spain is there, every loving fan is there. While we wait, we are hearing for quite a long time as some kind of background music Tom Petty and the Hearbreaker’s Greatest Hits, but although lovely (I do have the album) it’s not what we came for…so we keep waiting. And then, the music stops, (21.31pm) Roger takes the scene, waves, just a short Hi! before in the Flesh overwhelms everyone. And now, the true thing has started, until 22.50 we hear almost all of Roger’s greatest hits whether with or without Pink, such as Perfect Sense, setting the controls (Amazing!), Sheep, Leaving Beirut (after a short intro), Shine on you…(speechless), mother (Go Katie!), wish you were here, Fletcher memorial home, Southampton dock, have a cigar…. Then a 15 minute break, (22.50-23.05) and DSOTM starts, I wish I had some idea how to explain this better, however, if you think that the whole stadium behaving and feeling like a single soul with a more-than-thirty-year-old piece of music is not enough, then, I am unable of writing anymore. Should I try to do so, I would say that most of us missed David Gilmour, and no one can say anything different, however, “time” was staggering, “the great gig…” with Katie –one again- was lovely, superb, amazing…..and when brain damage and eclipse came, all the waiting, the emotions, the scenery, all came to place. The extra bonuses where ABITW II and Comfortably numb -of course-, and although I shall miss Final cut, or Amused to Death, or Gunner’s Dream, or Pigs on the Wing, or One of these days……….it was 12.15 by then, lights when on, time was up. The sound could have been better, but the arena couldn’t give any better, some friends from Toledo told me that their new “palacio de los deportes” would have been better, I remided the of our new “ciutat de les arts –S.Calatrava-” back in Valencia, but every Pink Floyd fan was there that night, and no one would ever complain that the show wasn’t worth every penny!! The after concert… Everyone came to its senses, we realized that we were about to leave, it had been more than enough excitement, and as some fan-friends from Palma de Mallorca told me by that night we hadn’t realized yet what that concert meant, and we would take time to fully enjoy our memories…our thoughts. “All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.” CONCERT REVIEW and PICTURES - by BD contributer, Alfredo Larios Flores Hello there, I'm just not that good at writing English [seems fine to us!], but last Saturday was one of the happiest days of my life. Roger and the band were awesome, Pink Floyd songs were never performed with such an incredible excitement. Visually and musically, it was a great concert, hope to see them again, maybe touring "The Wall", it'd be awesome!!! It was my dream come true, to see him live, with such an incredible band. My favorite tunes? All of them!!! Especially Dark Side of the Moon.
Thanks Roger, you made me the happiest guy on earth!!!
Great Show !! CONCERT REVIEW - by BD contributer, Jon Egia Last year I was at this same show in Berlin. But this time it was even better. The indoor setting made it more suitable for the movies in the background and it sounded clearer. Moreover, new props have been added in the meantime and all in all the show has evolved from Incredible to Sublime. Yes, it was a sublime show. From the beginning we new we were there for a real deal: about a quarter before the show actually started the LCD screen was put into motion. A new Pink smoked and drank hard alcohol while listening to the radio, and when he changed the station, so did the music. He dismissed Abba immediately and preferred songs that seemed from the 40s or so. We'll meet again; Don't know when; but I know we'll meet again some sunny day"... eins, zwei, drei........ In The Flesh changed the rules of the game with pyrotechnics, marching hammers and a lot of lights. The feeling of warm confussion spread across the arena, and his Nazi-like parody song hypnotized us. "If I had my way, I'd have all of you shot". For some seconds, I believed him. But parody is parody and Mother reminded us about Roger's true feelings. Being alone hurts the body and the mind.
The first set continued smoothly with prop-highlights being THE SECOND SET In my Review of the Berlin show, last year, I said that I found the second set a little bit dry and orthopedic. I must change that now. Dark Side of the Moon Live has to be the most moving experience I have ever had. Being along hundreds of people who sang along every song at full volume, including myself, was a totally overwhelming thing to do, and I will never forget those who were around me, whom I had met just minutes before, but had already developed deep ties connecting among us. A true community of soul-mates. Thanks to the two chaps from Donosti. I fell in love with you, brunette! ; ) Anyway... Great Gig: ridiculously incredible. The Prism beaming the rainbow, mind blowing. Various Rainbow shaped lasers across the arena...cuadraphonic sound for extra brain damage... what else can we ask for? For yet another tour Roger! Come on! Now with more of your very own songs, and a new album and.... I know we will meet again some sunny day, Mr Waters. Thanks. |
