Storm Thorgerson working on two new books - update Print E-mail

Last week, we reported on a story in the Swedish Daily News, which remarked that Storm Thorgerson, who designed most of Pink Floyd's legendary album covers, was currently hard at work on two new books to be released soon.

We had a chat with Storm over the weekend, and the subject of his forthcoming books was one topic of the conversation.

The Swedish article referred firstly to an "autobiographical look at all of his work, over the years". Storm told us that this was very far off - he hasn't even got a publisher for this yet, so we're certainly not looking at this year, and probably not next year either.

The other book that the article referred to is "a lavish book about Dark Side Of The Moon". The report notes that "right now Storm and his assistant Dan Abbott are sitting twisting and turning triangles - again. The triangular theme from the album sleeve has to be varied in absurdum. Dan explains that he see triangles every time he close his eyes, and have been doing so for several years now; since the greatest hits period a couple of years back when the Pink Floyd aesthetic saw a brief renaissance".

Storm confirmed that this book is the long-awaited tome from John Harris. Called "Dark Side Of The Moon: The Making Of Pink Floyd's Masterpiece", the book is an in-depth analysis of the album, and is due for release around August/September this year. We've been providing some assistance to John with the development of the book, over the last few months or so, and it sounds like it's going to be a worthy addition to the book shelves! Advance orders for this book are already being taken through our special links at Amazon.com (US/International), Amazon UK, Amazon Canada, France and Germany.

Finally, Storm told us that he will be starting work in earnest on the "box of delights" limited edition of Nick Mason's "Inside out", being released by Genesis Publications and last mentioned on April 8th, tomorrow. Having been privy to what Genesis were considering for inclusion in the box, there's some very interesting content being assembled for the 500 sets that will be available.

We touched on the identity of the person on the front cover of Inside Out, in Nick's racing overalls. As revealed previously, this is not, in fact, Nick himself, but Storm's son Bill. However, Storm was very cagey about who was in the overalls, unwilling (with a devilish twinkle) to confirm that it is Bill. We got the info from Peter Curzon, who works with Storm, and so our sources are impeccable!

Our thanks to Storm for sparing some of his weekend to chat with us, and for the updates on the above.
