Roger Waters in "Greatest Frontmen" poll Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 23 June 2004

The latest issue of the UK's "Classic Rock" magazine, cover date July 2004, has as its cover feature, their poll of the 100 Greatest Frontmen. In the quite respectable 34th position is former Pink Floyd frontman, Roger Waters.

In the article, Roger is described as "the reluctant frontman. The one who was never more relaxed as when he was hidden in plain sight. Waters took over from Syd Barrett as mind, soul and focus of Pink Floyd. It was Waters's restive genius fused to a controlling paranoia that helped distil some of the greatest musical moments in Rock. And was there ever anyone better at exposing their inner insecurities?"

The position in the chart is based on a number of factors, with Roger scoring 3/5 on that mysterious "x" factor, 4/5 on voice, 2/5 on image, and his gimmick is quoted as "spitting bile"! The late, much missed Bon Scott (AC/DC) heads the run down, followed by Queen's Freddie Mercury and Led Zep's Robert "Percy" Plant. The magazine is in UK stores now; it is available as an import in selected worldwide outlets.
