Pink Floyd at the Piper Club, 1968 - the true story Print E-mail

A couple of long-time Pink Floyd fans from Italy, Stefano Tarquini and Nino Gatti, have been researching the band's 1968 live appearances, to try and clear up some confusion over when and where they played in that country.

The research based on the audio and video material currently available, and on information in Italian newspapers and material of other bands performing in Rome together with the Floyd at the First European International Pop Festival in May 1968, led to the only possible conclusion they did perform at the Palazzo Dello Sport and not at the Piper Club on May 6th.

Looking at the only video document available of the Pink Floyd performance at the Festival, there is the proof that it was definitely the Palazzetto Dello Sport they were performing in (the stands of the Palazzo Dello Sport together with other well noticeable details are clearly visible). Evidence of the Pink Floyd performing at the Piper Club surfaced anyway, although no date can be 100% confirmed yet.

This research has shown concrete evidence they shot at least a promo video inside the Piper Club: "It Would Be So Nice". Indeed, the promo video of "It Would Be So Nice" discloses unmistakably the balcony of the Piper Club.

A full, 8 page report, entirely in Italian so far, goes into huge detail and is available for your enjoyment and curiosity through this link. They are looking to do an English translation of the document soon. Our thanks to Stefano for letting us know about this research...
