MusikMekkaMunster exhibition

In 2004, the Rock’n’PopMuseum (www.rock-popmuseum.com) in Gronau, Germany had come to an agreement with the Cite de la Musique in Paris, France. The extremely popular Pink Floyd Paris exhibition, Interstellar, which was held at the Cite, was due to transfer to Gronau, but for some unknown reasons that sadly never happened.

Nevertheless, a healthy amount of Floyd coverage can now be seen at the museum in a recently opened exhibition - MusikMekkaMunster - which runs until August 23rd, 2015. The main body of this exhibition consists of the work of the photographer Christoph Preker, a native of Munster who died in 1996. Furthermore, one of the major parts of the exhibition consists of a series of concert shots of Pink Floyd, taken on February 24th, 1971 in the town.

Elsewhere in the exhibition are Munster concert shots of The Rolling Stones, from 1965 and 1975, The Who from 1967, Jethro Tull, 1971, Kraftwerk, 1971, Joe Cocker, 1985, Miles Davis, 1987, and many more. The Stones shots are interesting from an historical perspective, as the concert was the band's first ever concert on European soil.

The exhibition also includes interviews with various key figures, alongside rare concert posters, bootleg recordings, tickets, musicians clothing (including one of Keith Moon’s t-shirts, from The Who's 1967 concert in Munster.

Prints of all 37 Pink Floyd pictures are available to buy, in various sizes, through this link which also has other images that are on display in the museum, and in the context of the exhibition the pictures are either on big canvas frames or shown on a large screen as a slide show.

Our thanks to BD regular Michael Nickel for the help, information, and pictures shown here.
