Floyd rarities available in charity auction Print E-mail

Those with plenty of spare cash in their bank accounts could end up with some very nice, rare Pink Floyd items next week, whilst helping out three very worthwhile charities in the process.

The highly respected auction house Christie's are running a "Pop Memorabilia" sale at their South Kensington branch, and as part of the sale, are a number of items from (the band's late manager) Steve O'Rourke's estate. They are being sold to benefit Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and Winston's Wish, a charity supporting bereaved children and young people.

Naturally, there are some wonderful, unusual items - many of which are one-off's presented to Steve himself. These range from 1966/67 autographed items, early posters (including a number of 1967 examples, such as the UFO poster to the right, and a 1969 "Massed Gadgets of Auximenies" poster from the Royal Festival Hall), through tour t-shirts and collectables spanning their career, to a number of presentation discs and awards.

The most expensive item (going by the estimated selling price of £3000-5000) is a pair of metallic "Division Bell" heads. The majority of the lots are estimated to sell for between £200-500.

The sale occurs on Thursday, May 25th. The complete list of 32 Pink Floyd lots (sixteen of which are from Steve's estate) can be seen through this link at www.Christies.com which has pictures and descriptions of each lot on offer. It might prove too tempting for some of you though - it certainly had us mulling over certain lots!

Our thanks to Adam Stanley for letting us know about this auction.

The other charity looking to be in line for a much deserved cash injection is the UK's NSPCC - the National Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children. There is a Live 8 programme for sale on eBay in aid of the NSPCC, which is signed by many of the artists who performed at the show. It was donated by Annette Mason - Nick's wife! You can view the item - and place your bid - through this link to eBay. Our thanks to Adrian Saunders for letting us know.
